In FF #126, if I recall correctly, John Buscema shows the Thing in his dinosaur hide form and Ben, seeing it, remarks he's more rocky now. This was the first mention I ever saw of characters mentioning in a comic they look different over time. Can't find an image of it on line tho.

Maybe I'm wrong but I seem to remember you using a similar pose for the Hulk during your run, JB, when Bruce Banner was showing the evolution of the Hulk from his first appearance to his then-current self. It's cool to see how this was a tribute to the version you like best. :)
