Why a letter to Donner, when he was removed? Send a letter to WB to release the footage from the vault.

Lars, one of the fan-sites had a link to the WB letters page, where you can send them a note, and I did it a few weeks ago, and got back the blandest form letter I've ever read - it was something like "Dir Sir or Mamm, we have no information about [upcoming releases], but please continue to purchase our products.  Signed, WB.  (catalogue attached)"

Needless to say, I don't have my hopes up.

Superman IV had a cool scene in it - Clark/Superman appear at
the same apartment/same time as Lois. He uses his speed to
trick her into seeing both Clark and Superman. I read in a
Donner interview that this was originally conceived for
Superman II.

Add me to the RIC list, boys.

As for Superman IV, its best left alone. Under a rock. A very, very heavy rock.

Hold on Gerry... aren't you just covering your bases to make sure that Samara won't kill you at the end of the week?

Oh wait. Sorry - my mistake. I just remembered, that's a different movie.

According to your calculation the Lester Superman II footage would be the better footage, since it wasn't left out.

There are some reasons why I don't like the DVD the way it was presented. The art there looks like something the cat dragged in, Christopher Reeve never made funny faces like Chris O'Donnel in Batman and Robin. This is one of the worst drawings/paintings I have ever seen, making it look like an amateur compilation which it of course is.

Some of you are posting negative opinions about Superman IV, and I initially stated that I do not find it to be of the same quailty as Superman II, but you are sadly not taking into consideration that a fine artist was involved with it.

I know very well that the fine  artist we all love don't want to be mentioned in the same sentence when this movie was not so good, so I won't do that. but this "fact" makes me more interested in watching the lost Superman IV footage than the horrible Superman II amateur DVD cover.

Therefore my suggestions about what should be done: I want a complete Superman IV restoration. Remove the cover from that S II DVD. Try to get the Metropolis footage. Or insert explanations, storyboards, like that  "last" Tin Tin album.

I bought the package dvd and they are fun to watch--even Superman IV, Merryl Hemingway was pretty good in her role-- kidda wish SHE was Lois Lane.

Given the choice between crappy Richard Lester footage and crappy rejected Sydney J. Furie footage, you're darn right I come down on the side of Richard Lester.  Actually, I'd probably come down on the side of ritual suicide, but my point stands.

The theme music was a passionate tune for Superman, John Williams was definitely the right person hired to write the score.  He should be asked to return and Ottman could go back to X3 and play with that.

Which movie are you referring to? Ken Thorne got 2/3 of a symphony orchestra or something to direct. It's probably that soundtrack there. Thorne composed one new piece. In the movie you can just almost hear it, it's when they are in the hotel room in Canada. When played loud it's not a great tune.

Apparently not, because I have no idea what you're talking about.  You've piqued my interest, tho'.
