The story as conceived by Mario Puzo and filmed by Donner echoed Greek tragedy; the missile that Superman diverted in Superman would have released the Phantom Zone villains in Superman II as a "fitting punishment" for his "hubris" of traveling through time to save Lois for his own personal desires.

I would really love to see all of Donner's scenes restored, if possible.

There was a petition going around about a year ago
requesting that WB go back and rework Superman II
to include all the footage shot by Donner, including
the scenes with Marlon Brando--specifically the
scene which shows how Clark got his powers back.

I was only too happy to sign that petition.

A short time later, I received a letter from WB saying
that they were considering it, provided they could get
past the legal hurdles.

I hope they can. This would be a wonderful thing to watch.

You're a swell guy, Gerry! If the offer extends to anyone on the board, I'll take a copy. Just let me know what you need for shipping.

Fair enough. Just let us know when you get yours,
and we can set up a distribution system.

Sounds snazzy.

Edited to note: To those unfamiliar with the expression, that's a positive.
