I'm more shocked with the bit in the article about the impending marriage of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle.

Two questions... 1) is this only in the US or will Wal-Mart in Canada get them as well? and 2) why is there so much New 52 content represented instead of the Rebirth stuff?
These remind me of the short lived Marvel Megazine and Spider-Man Megazines that Marvel put out about twenty years ago or so.

Those 100 pagers meant a lot to me back in the day. That World's Finest issue posted above was my intro to Deadman and featured one of the saddest scenes I'd seen to that point, an image of Deadman watching his friends gather his personal papers from his trailer at the circus and burn them in a wire trash basket. That Nick Cardy image of Metamorpho as a doorknob completely freaked me out. Too weird...
A major difference between then and now, however, is that today's readers are going to get slivers of stories and overriding story arcs, not complete stories, depending upon how far back the reprints go.
It'll be interesting to see if there will be any of these left on the stands at Wal-Mart for the public or if speculators and pirates will buy them all up in a fell swoop and offer them for resale on eBay at twice or three times cover price. Also, retailers may squawk at being cut out of the market for these items. Why should the pirates make all the money and not them? Haven't they supported DC all these years? Diamond's apt to be miffed as well, should these prove popular.
I suppose we'll see.

My LCS is pretty excited about this. They believe that any extra exposure to comic books is going to be good for business.

I'm all for comics showing up wherever they can. That said, it bugs me that so many of these efforts seem to go the "exclusive content/packaging" route.
I miss the days when the only difference between the newsstand and the direct market was the occasional Spider-Man head in place of a UPC.

I most likely won't be buying these books, since they are largely composed of reprints of stories that I either have or have no interest in. That said, I found myself broadly smiling immediately, at the news. This is a huge opportunity to begin to regain the masses and introduce the buying public (our society is more consumer-driven and obsessed , than ever!) to comics. It has been needed for decades. I hope it works to stop the bleeding and revitalize the dying patient.

If they reprint stuff from the 60's and 70's I might be a little interested. But if its just more recent reprints, no thanks.
