Mini-Cerebro.

Thinking about throwing together a guick model so I can redraw it with greater consistency.

Perhaps some portable version of Cerebro, similar function to the units used in the Dark Phoenix Saga when looking for Dazzler.

It’s so great to see the team together on this latest page - you really have a knack for capturing these characters even in the way they stand and talk.  And it’s so cool to see Wolverine using his powers to track Kitty - it reminds me of the scene during JB’s run when he was “hunting” a deer, with the only goal to touch the deer.  We don’t see enough subtlety in Wolverine when he is depicted - his default seems to vascilate between brooding and berserker.

It was great to read JB’s run close to release so I could experience Wolverine before he became “cool” - I liked him as a supporting player who could indeed be a berserker, but he had more to him during JB’s run.

And it’s worth mentioning for those that don’t know - Claremont and Cockrum were going to write the character out of the book. We have JB to thank for Wolverine staying on the team rather than being relegated to the occasional MARVEL TEAM-UP appearance.

I'm loving seeing the faces. There seems to be far more individuality and act/emoting.

Rereading the ESSENTIAL X-Men volume 1 over lunch. Just came to the page in 99 on which we learn Peter has a dead cosmonaut brother, and that they were "close" because they were "all we had."

Poor Peter! Gains and loses a brother in the span of four panels -- and also loses both parents and his sister at the same time!

Also noticing it took ten issue for me to exert my independence and get rid of the twin glows in Cyclops' visor.

(Colossus' belt buckle undergoes an unconscious modification. Can't think why!)

JB, THANK YOU for posting these pages! I love watching the process and the anticipation of waiting for the next page to be posted. I'm in heaven.

Also, there are some amazing inking going on here. I was going to try my own hand at it but I'm just too blown away by you guys. I'm reminded of the old Marvel Try-Out book. I didn't think I could improve on Big John Romita's pencils then and I definitely don't think I could with JB's now.

Keep 'em coming!

The latest page is beautiful. A lot tighter than when you were getting started with that first page thanks to our bad interpretative inking! The small things add up to create a nicely satisfying the whole: the relative size of each character, the way Storm's cape and the strap of mini-cerebro hang in the final panel, the way the strap goes from hanging taut to loosening as Cyclops lifts it, and --as always -- that clear visual narrative in the art and clues to characterisation in the demeanour of each person.

Don't think of it as "improving", think of it as tidying.
