I'm increasingly convinced that if this became a real series a reprinting of the "Untold Tale" of Phoenix as Issue 0 might be a good idea. New cover, of course.

I've always wished I could've seen 138 with your original splash page and panels combined with the rest of the flashback issue (instead of the funeral scenes......again, as a result of the original panels and splash being printed in "The Art of John Byrne"....such a tease to my young, "way things should've been" mindset)

Flipping thru the ESSENTIAL volume covering this vintage, I seem to have located the first reference to the StratoJet as the "Blackbird". It's in my last issue, our "salute" to ALIEN.

Anyone care to ammend that?

Okay, so a pilot calls it a "Blackbird" even tho it doesn't really look like one, and a caption identifies it as a "modified SR-71 Blackbird" even tho it clearly isn't.

My head hurts.

Modified meaning removal of the entire middle third and replacing it with something else!

I no longer have an original copy of "Uncanny X-Men" #94, but can anyone who does have the actual comic check and see if the dialogue matches the above panels? The scans Michael posted appear to be from a reprint. The reason I am asking about the original panels is that sometimes "corrections"* are made in later reprints. I can't recall if this might be one of those instances.

Edited to add example: *Say, for instance, how Peter Parker was named "Peter Palmer" accidentally in the original printing of "Amazing Spider-Man" #1, but most later reprints would correct the mistake. I was thinking that maybe a later reprint changed the reference to the jet in "Uncanny X-Men" #94 to say it was a Blackbird?
