Why must you play with our emotions in this way, JB?

I think what could work for both Marvel and JB is for him to do a run on new What If stories. That way John can do stories with the characters that he likes, when they were in the state that they felt real to him, a few FFs stories from Stan and Jack’s run, a X-Men What If story from Neal Adams’ Havok or Suaron storylines and of course maybe he could work in a few stories that he had outlined for the X-Men before is departure- What If Sabertooth killed Mariko and What If Cyclops was replaced by an Android. These would have to be reshaped a bit to fit the What If format, but would be incredibly cool to see. While I’m dreaming they could span over two or three issues.

I guess what I really want is the ongoing series “What If John Byrne Didn’t Leave the X-Men”.

Marvel Two in One.

Team up book with Ben that isn't a slave to continuity, like Brave and the Bold in the 70s.

I'd be so very happy...

One where Kitty Pryde wakes from a months' long coma to find the events of Uncanny X-Men #143 onward were all a dream, her code name is Sprite, she is not a maths genius or ninja, and a strange object has just been recovered from the bottom of Jamaica Bay! That would work for me. :^)

And take it one step further and replace the universe
with this new one.

I'd love to see Tomb of Dracula or a Hannibal King solo book, but more than anything, Marvel needs honest-to-goodness Superheroism.
The Fantastic Four, whether "Fantastic Four-ever" or not, would bring me out of retirement, no questions asked.
Daredevil is also an intriguing option- the character's moral code and dedication to justice is very appealing when handled by a creator who values such things.

Realistically, I would say Fantastic Four and/or
Fantastic Forever, since Marvel seems to be ready to
bring back the FF. Byrne on this book or on a
companion FForever book (or both) seem like a good
move. The Forever book would give him the freedom to
do what he wants without having to worry about what
else is happening, but it would I love to see him on
the main book, but separate from all the events of the
Avengers, et. al.

Independence, which I'm sure would help make this
happen, hypothetically, suggests a WWII Invaders book
would be ideal. This little Byrne pocket universe
might then expand to include a new Hidden Years title,
and maybe someone could then convince him to finish
the last Galactus story.

Defenders, however unrealistic, is still my go to
because it gives us a Byrne Hulk again, as well as
Namor again, Silver Surfer, and Dr. Strange finally.
I would love to see the the Hulk and Namor replaced by
She-Hulk and Hercules after about a year, so JB could
explore that teased romance. I'm sure he could find a
way to team them up with a few Alpha Flight
counterparts in a crossover too, re-examining Namor's
relationship with Marina, as our big guys and
magicians mix it up a bit for fun. I would have the
Silver Surfer be the reason for getting the band back
together again, but I would have him leave first too,
marketing his exit to coincide with the last Galactus
story marketing push. Then I would send the original
three to Canada to mix it up with Alpha Flight and
straighten out that mess. Then I would have Nighthawk
and Val join the team for a trip to Asgard before
ending up on Olympus and being joined by Hercules.
Then we could replace the Hulk with She-Hulk (a la the
Thing and the FF) and start to explore that romance I
mentioned. Then Namor could head back to Atlantis or
wherever and Dr. Strange could...

I could do this all day :-)

But I would be excited about anything John were to do
at Marvel (or DC, or IDW, or...)

Hey, maybe it's not the FF JB returns to, maybe it's
DR. DOOM and we explore all of this from his
perspective.

Maybe Doom faces the FF, Maybe Doom splits Banner and
the Hulk again, and maybe the Hulk is defeated and
dies during Doom's plan to... (Banner could always
become the Hulk again later). Maybe Doom's magic gets
him into a conflict with Dr. Strange, maybe he uses
the Surfer to go after Galactus again. Maybe Doom is
the only character big enough for all of JB's talent
and creativity.

Damn these teases.

Who am I kidding?!? I would love to see JB back at
Marvel.

Then maybe I would see myself back at Marvel.

Well, if the title MARVEL UNIVERSE caused confusion with retailers in the past, an old school title like TALES TO ASTONISH may prove workable.

THE WATCHER - Each issue would contain events observed by the Watcher.
This would allow JB to bring us tales about anyone that take place
anywhere and anywhen in the Marvel universe.

When I read this topic, the first thing that came to my mind was Cold War, so I thought of Black Widow or something SHIELD related.
But the Defenders in WW2 sounds better. Or even the Invaders.

I'd also back a return the "The Hidden Years". (Or some such X-Men production)
