Too true Mr. Byrne. The next biggest might have been "Superman! FIRST MARVEL ISSUE! By John Byrne!"

Unlikely in the extreme at the time, and downright nigh impossible now. I don't even think it's that WE'VE gotten so jaded as much as the publishers are no longer capable of making it interesting.

Shooter's objections seem reasonable to me, like he was doing his job as Editor-In-Chief.

But DC was trying to do things Marvel-style by giving Perez leeway to just get on with it. In a way Shooter is more a DC full script guy I think, and even then made loads of corrections and changes to the art after it was done, sometimes without the artist, sometimes with, until some plain didn't want to work with him again. It's really some kind of Shooter vs. Perez deal mainly.

Live observations circa 1985-86:
Dick Giordano = approachable, outgoing, positive, considerate, generous.
Jim Shooter = analytical, intimidating, quiet, gloomy.

The book does point out the contrast between DC and Marvel over time, talking about how the DC guys had dress codes, smoked pipes, were conservative, etc. Whilst it appears Marvel, at least at one point, was more carefree and casual.

That would be the case up to the middle '60s or so I'm thinking. DC Editor Robert Kanigher however is described as sporadically a wild man by some who were there. :^)

I would still like to know who the author is. If it's all 'internet research' or paper (previous books) it might not have as much value. I have been surprised the odd time though by someone in Scandinavia writing an amazing and thorough book about L.A. group The Byrds.

Well, when anecdotes and words are mentioned, the footnotes link to website links and publications. Older comments will have a link to something, e.g. an issue of COMICS JOURNAL in which a creator gave an interview; modern ones will link to comments made by the likes of Quesada.

There still can be "he said/she said" (obviously), but then again, when Quesada made a comment on the web, and I vaguely remember reading it at the time, that's incontestable.
