Hard to imagine Grace Kelly springing suddenly into action.

Tangent: Mr. Byrne, I believe you're referring to "New Warriors." A title which seemed a little dated as it came out... but I was a big ol' Nova fan, so I overlooked that.
But one would have hoped that Fabian Nicieza might have consulted the author of Namorita's "home" book about how her character was currently being treated.
One would have been grossly mistaken, of course.

Reading that panel, I did not know Reed Richards was a Judo Master.
If Stan and Jack presented it, then it's canon in my book!

Not to go on a tangent, but whenever I re-read the early Marvel classics by Stan Lee, I can't but chuckle at how he continually turned to Judo -- for any number of ostensibly weaker v. stronger characters and situations -- it was almost like magic for him!

Roger Stern used to say that "radiation" was Stan's version of magic. He used it for everything!(My favorite was when Angel flying over an exploding nuclear reactor caused him to go btiefly insane!)

That Namor series had JB firing on all cylinders.
I am thankful just for the return of the Invaders story we got.

There's another classic behind the scenes story. At the time I did the Invaders story in NAMOR, Marvel was trying every trick in the book to squeeze extra bux out of the fans. So, the editor and I went to the EiC and asked for a double cover on that issue. (Two covers on the same copy.) He said we could have a second cover if we went to a second printing. (This was the same genius who had not let us use "Marvel's First and Mightiest Mutant" on the first issue cover.)

This is a pin-up, I believe, instead of a panel but I think it captures Sue very well. As our host mentioned earlier, Sue is a beautiful and classy dame. And Mr. Byrne knows how to bring this out on the page better than anyone.

You can't go wrong with any 1982-83 Byrne Sue Storm.

Totally agree.
To me, Namor contained some of JB's best writing (and I'm curious to see if he agrees, or what he prefers!) - informed by history without being slavish to continuity, every issue providing a satisfying main story while also containing sub-plots for future storylines; the delusion Namor has that Namorita is Namora, the "return" of Danny Rand, the - um - return of Danny Rand!
And Namor - arrogant, haughty, aloof, disdainful....and yet a HERO, not a teeth-gritting vigilante.

Oh I forgot to say. The closest to Sue for me will always be Tea Leoni.
