It's been rumored for some time, but it looks like
it's finally official - Variety is reporting that Bryan
Singer will indeed be using the late Marlon Brando
as Jor-El:
As for "Superman Returns," Singer, partway
through the shoot, said that he has added another
star name to the cast: the late actor Marlon Brando.
Brando will once again play Superman's father,
Jor-El, thanks to vintage footage from the Richard
Donner/Richard Donner-directed 1978 pic. Singer
said he has purchased all of that footage and plans
to use it somehow in the new picture.
To what extent the footage will be used still
remains a mystery, however.
If Singer can put unused Brando footage into the
new film, I wonder if this means that WB will allow
Richard Donner to go back in and fix Superman II by
inserting the missing Brando footage shot for that
film.
Would be such a kick to see Brando and Christopher
Reeve finally playing off of each other, face to face.

It's amazing to watch this Superman and the new Batman spinning off in opposite directions, the more I hear/read about each. I expect "Batman Returns" will actually get me into the theater, the first "Batman" movie to do so -- while it seems increasingly as if there is nothing that could prompt me to see "Superman Returns" under any circumstance.Ah, well!

I can't wait for Superman Returns. I'm not in favor of a film series attempting to start from scratch and continue to put into the film what was wrong in the previous installments.
This Singer film is bold and challenging. Putting Brando in the movie is a nice touch.

I very much like the fact that "Batman Begins" is
ignoring the Tim Burton/Joel Sh*t-maker films and
that "Superman Returns" embraces the Richard
Donner material.

To be fair, Schumacher has done some good films. PHONE BOOTH was outstanding. I liked FLATLINERS and LOST BOYS, too.
