Spacey's good, but I would have gone
with James Gandolfini, myself. I can't help but feel that this
movie just hasn't been cast right from the very start. Their
Superman simply looks too young.

I seem to recall it being pronounced Luther in the Reeve films. At least by everyone but Ned ("Mistuh Lew-Thaw") Beatty.

True, But Gene Hackman pronounced it right and that's all that counts for me. When the villain on Smallville introduces himself and PROnounces his name wrong. Urrrgh!!!

Yup- just checked my copy of Atom Man vs. Superman and Lyle Talbot definitely pronounces it Luthawr.

Seriously? I seem to remember both Hackman and Reeve pronouncing it with the "or" at least a few times. I haven't watched any of the films for a number of years, so maybe I need to get them out again.

Both Hackman and Reeve used "er". I don't remember how it was pronounced in the Dean Cain show.

In chapter 33 of Superman DvD, Hackman introduces himself as LuTHOR to Clark through frequency. In Chapter 34, it is Superman who pronounces Luthor's name wrong. Chapter 35, Superman pronounces the name correctly, but Hackman pronounces one of his cities Lutherville. That doesn't count to me because he's just simply saying the city not his name. In the same chapter Superman says "ER" again, and in Chapt. 36 he says "OR" and then one cut later he says "ER".
LOL!!! Unbelievable!!! LOL!!!
In Chapter 43, Superman brings Luthor and Otis to prison. Hackman introduces himself as LuthER but so does Otis. Was this a sly way of making his criminal record written wrong or was it a hollywood mispronounciation?
A good film to watch again, but Brian you are right. It does occur quite often.
