I read it.
It needed at least two more rewrites before it could be deemed ready for filming.
As written, fan-geeks might have gotten a kick out of it. Superman purists probably would have hated it. Mainstream audiences would have been almost completely lost.

No. He's interested in keeping the Donner work as the background for
this film and that's good. Very good. The recreation of the Kent
farm is good. The ship is good. He has expressed interest in respecting
the source material although he was saying that about X-Men and, well,
not everyone agrees that happened.
But, honestly, I don't think a lot is known about this film's plot.
There's some rumormill stuff about this including the death of Superman
stuff from the comics or a child of Lois and Superman or more than one
(two, actually) costume for Superman. About what we do know is
that Superman's been "missing" (off planet) for years and this features
his return.

All I can say is thank god this never got filmed. I like Smith as a director but this script is god-awful. I don't know if anyone else thought it seemed like a parody but I sure did. I don't rate Smith's comic book writing much more highly.

If it is the Superman V script with Brainiac and the death and return of Superman and Doomsday and stuff that can be found on the net, it was very very bad.

Never cared for Ghost Rider, so I have no opinion one way or the other.
Based on the little I know about the original Ghost Rider, I would think Matt Damon would be more appropriate for Johnny Blaze than Nicolas Cage.
That's assuming they're even going with the Johnny Blaze version. |

He is Johnny Blaze, but there are some of the Dan ketch elements thrown in. By the director of Daredevil (director and writer). Also stars Wes Bentley, Eva Mendes, Sam Elliott, Peter Fonda.

Bwaahh Haa Ha! Nice rug on Cage there. No wonder his head catches on fire with that fire-hazard topping his noggin. This makes ths Superman costume almost bearable.
But hopefully this will take care of Nic's desire to do a super-hero movie.

Peter Fonda??
This makes me think the director is going to be cutsie, since, I'm assuming, Fonda was cast because of his famous role as a biker in "Easy Rider."

IMDB.com lists Peter Fonda as Mephisto. So I guess just a voice? He is 6 billed, 3 below Blackheart, his "son". Jon Voigt was originally cast.

Did Mephisto have a lot to do with The Ghost Rider? IIRC it was Satan he was up against warn't it? Thought Mephisto belonged almost solely to The Silver Surfer...
...actually, what was the deal with Mephisto - he was obviously Satan to the surfer's Christ, but was his origin/relationship to the real Satan ever explored? In the Surfer's book his powers seemed more or less limitless, so did he ever confront let's say Galactus or some other 'infinite' entity?
Just curious...

I visited BrandonRouth.com, there were some cool behind the scenes stuff on the filming of Superman Returns. I can't wait to get a look at Kevin Spacey as LEX (not Luther, pronounced wrong on Smallville) LUTHOR. At least there is something Singer does right.

I never really took Peter Fonda seriously until his excellent
performance in "Ulee's Gold". He also did a great job in "The
Limey"
And I never really saw any of his directorial efforts until this past
weekend when I checked out a really interesting movie called
"The Hired Hand" with Warren Oates. I always stayed away
from him because I knew his major creative effort was "Easy
Rider", which I've never even seen even though I have been
told I should. The closest I've come to watching "Easy Rider" is
seeing "Lost in America" five times.
