Brando tells Clark at the end of his speech, that 18 of his earth years had passed in the short time they talked.

There are several indications in Superman: The Movie that earth time is measured differently than krypton time.

"By now, you will have reached your 18th year, as it is measured on earth. By that reckoning, I will have been dead for many thousands of your years"

"By the time we return to the confines of your galaxy, twelve of your years will have past"

Why would Jor-El specify "your" years if earth and krypton years were the same?

There is also the added scene in the DVD release:

Jor El: "You cannot serve humanity 28 hours a day"

Superman: "24"

Jor El:  "Or 24, as it is measured on earth"

Wasn't it 12? And, in any case, this is not an indication that Krytonian time is different from Earth time, as we see Clark grow from about 18 to about 30 (during a "montage").

Problems arise from insufficient attention being paid by one part of the script to another. Jor-El says he has been dead for "many thousands of your years", but Superman tells Lois that Krypton exploded in 1948.

While it was never explained, I always figured that Superman's 12 years of tutelage from Jor El took place as a sort of "out of body" experience and that Clark physically remained on earth during this time.  This would explained how he aged to 30 since he was on earth and therefore bound by earth time.

Since Kal-El arrived on earth in 1951, it would have made sense for Superman to tell Lois that Krypton exploded in 1948 since his ship took 3 years to reach earth.  Krypton's explosion would have been measured in 3 earth years (which may have been equal to thousands of Kryptons years.

At least that is how I always saw it given what we were told in the film.  Given Donner's dedication to verisimilitude, I find it hard to believe the writers would word the dialoge that way without some logic behind it.

www.imdb.com is reporting that Hugh Jackman is secretly filiming scenes for "Superman Returns," playing Pa Kent in some flahback sequences. I assume he is being "aged" for the role.

Hugh Jackman in Superman Returns is phenomenal.  I am so stoked the suit is a modern looking version.

Doesn't Brandon looks like Ken Wahl from Wise Guy?

I'm not particularly a fan of tv actors moving on into the same roles to the silver screen.  Star Trek was the exception and turned out fine, but TNG should never have transitioned-- their films were bad.  I'm not a fan of the tv show Smallville and never saw one episode--what turned me off of the show was when I saw a preview of it on E! and a bald headed actor introduces himself AS Lex LUTHER.

BIG, BIG fuckin' mistake the name IS LEX LUTHOR, LEX LUTHOR!

I'm glad Tom Welling was not casted, if he were I would never give the film a chance because I don't want a motion picture come directly from a tv show.

Brandon Routh looks fantastic and I'm looking forward to his portrayal of Superman.

Check out this! For non believers that a man can truly fly!

Ah, Matt, Matt. Haven't you learned better than to assume anything when it comes to comic book movies?

So far, all I'm believing from that pic is that a man can pose with his hands on his hips.  In burgandy lizard-skin boots, no less.................
