Steven - I had forgotten about the guys from Mad Magazine, so I added them.  It's interesting to see how many are still with us.

In the birthday wished that he posted to Stan on his Facebook page Joe Sinnott mentioned their 67-year association, which is just mind-boggling!

Robert - 67 years!

I would say my mind was boggled were it not for being told last year that Olivia De Havilland was celebrating her centenary on 1 June 2016 - and that she was born on the first day of the Somme!

Is time getting shorter or longer? I just can't work it out!

Time is a function of the expansion of the Universe, and that expansion is accelerating. So........

But shouldn't that 'feel' relative?
We shouldn't feel time accelerating like this should we?
Children born a hundred years from now will only live a couple weeks at this rate, fer cryin' out loud!

I remember reading this. It does lead me to the question of what the universe is expanding into. What's "outside" the universe?

Nothing is outside the Universe. In this case, expansion does not mean moving outward from a central point, but instead means galaxies and other objects moving away from each other.

And if you really want to cook your brain, consider that this is happening because space itself is expanding, and those galaxies are being carried along like raisins in a rising loaf of bread.

Depends on who's doing the measuring. To a Galapagos turtle, our human lifespans come and go in the wink of an eye.

I was a little concerned that Stan wouldn't make it to this birthday. Often, it seems, when one elderly spouse goes, the other soon follows. Perhaps the Man's natural verve remains resilient.

He was a category on Jeopardy yesterday, and the first and last questions were actually him on video.

Naturally, I got all of them right. :)

(Funny thing is, new champs every day all week long. Can't remember the last time I saw this happen.)

Stan is a cold-stone legend and I'm so very glad he's still with us. I hope to be saying that for a great many more years.
