Good call, Wallace. You know in all the years of reading that story I'd never noticed that the Legion members used in that story were FF-like, but it's so obvious now that you've brought it to my attention, right down to the nod to the original FF cover with Gladiator (which should've been my first clue, duh). Very clever, JB.•• Thanks, but all that was at the suggestion of editor Mike Carlin.

I can understand why they want to keep the membership to four but they've really split the Mr Fantastic character into two (Mr. Terrific and Plastic Man) forcing them to drop the Human Torch.
------
I'm guessing that Plastic Man will be the "Johnny" of the group with Metamorpho being "Ben" while handling both the Thing and the Human Torch's powersets.

I assume they're going for a tonal match and not a one to one power match up.

I read some of early AVENGERS issues when I bought the first omnibus a couple years ago. Until then it never occurred to me how similar to the FF the team became when the founders left and Cap, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch stepped in to replace them.

This thread is very amusing in light of Brad Bird insisting the Incredibles were nothing like the FF. Hm. Big, strong one. Check. Stretching one. Check. Invisible one (with forcefields). Check. Two are married. Check. Two are siblings. Check. Youngest one bursts into flames. Check. Costumes are primary colors with black collars, gloves and boots. Check. Elliptical emblem on chest. Check. Subterranean villain. Check. Oh, yes, and team leader is "Mister ________". Guess it's not an issue now Disney owns Marvel.

Did Bird really say that? WOW. That was such a blatant homage (or rip off) that to deny it seems insane.

At the time, I recall him saying he'd not even heard of the Fantastic Four.

Good gravy. Was he that afraid of a lawsuit? Pretty sure Disney had better lawyers than Marvel as evidenced by the Howard the Duck redesign.

The odds against two separate girl characters with the seemingly unrelated powers of invisibility AND force fields seem ridiculously high.

I wonder if someone high up at Disney or Disney-owned Marvel has considered just replacing the presently defunct Fantastic Four with The Incredibles--in both the comics AND live action movies.

DC did the Heroes of Angor: Silver Sorceress (Scarlet Witch), Blue Jay (Yellowjacket), Wandjina (Thor) and Jack B. Quick (Quicksilver) in JLofA #87
============
I've just had another look at that issue. I strongly suspect that the cover was done first and a story had to be written to fit, and Mike Friedrich just threw up his hands and said "**** it".
