I think this constitutes 'shots fired', and is not a fake story...
DC is about to start publishing a comic called 'The Terrifics'. Its a team of four characters, Mister Terrific, Plastic Man, Metamorpho, and Phantom Girl. So, a scientist, a stretchy guy, a gruff guy with a mutated body, and a woman who becomes intangible. Jeff LeMire has come out and said he wants to recapture the magic of Lee and Kirby's FF run.
Is this the first time another company has deliberately swiped intellectual property that the competition wasn't using?

That's a cool remix. Half those names predate the FF anyway!

"Recapture the magic of Lee and Kirby's FF run"?? Seems to me DC is misfiring here... those four characters may share similar powers/attributes but the relationships formed by the FF can't be thrown into just any group dynamic. Missing the basis of how the FF worked.... much like Fox has with their attempts at building a big screen franchise.

I like the idea, but that's a weird mix. Metamorpho and Plastic Man on the same team is a bit redundant to me. And it seems to me that someone besides Phantom Girl could have been brought in (I don't like it when the LEGION gets cannibalized). And perhaps a good, strong, straight attempt at doing DOOM PATROL or CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN might have been better.
Still, I will take a look.

Well, at the very least it's an interesting way of using characters that couldn't support a book on their own.
But where's the young hothead?

Somehow I can't imagine Phantom Girl sticking around too long. She belongs in the 31st century. But I heard about this idea, and I think there are a bunch of other characters that are going to be part of the comic.
I'm sure that LeMire wants to write a "kid-friendly" all-ages comic. More power to him. Will it be good? I've heard good things about LeMire's writing, so who knows.

Well, here's a couple of images I found. White costumes? Looks like they're trying to "homage" the Jonathan Hickman era, not Lee/Kirby. And Metamorpho is going rocky? I don't know, seems like a stretch--like maybe more of a half idea that needed more to make it work.

Not a group I would've imagined getting together. All depends on who's writing it.

Bwah ha ha ha ha! That's a good one!
...wait, you're serious?
I mean, if DC wanted to do THAT, they should just have kickstarted the 31st century again, and used Brainiac 5, Chameleon Boy, Sun Boy, Ferro Lad, XS, and Invisible Kid. That encompasses all the power sets, and has six instead of four... just to avoid any copyright issues, darn them anyhow.
No, truly - this is a real thing?

I'm a huge fan of Lenore's own books but even his Marvel stuff didn't do it for me.
Still, I am intrigued...
