Captain Marvel (short on raw strength compared to many ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How is he short on raw strength? He can go toe to toe with Superman and could win.

Thanks for the reminder Anthony. My line of thinking was "well, no one's as strong as the Hulk" (forgetting that Superman dwarfs the Hulk, and as you pointed out, Superman and Cap have gone toe to toe as equals), and "Thor's a literal freaking god", forgetting that Cap is essentially SIX gods. Updated my original post to fix that major brain fart!

Professor X, Superman, Green Lantern, and the Flash. Good luck beating the guy that can read/control your mind, the most powerful superhero that ever lived, the greatest weapon in the universe, and the fastest man alive!

It's hard to pick a team without knowing what their challenge is. Sneaking into the Pentagon and getting out with the silverware? Batman or the Panther is all you need. Fixing a flooding damn? Captain Marvel or Superman are a little better suited than Nick Fury or Wolverine. Organizing a guerrilla team? Captain America is it. Organizing a team to work computers to the best effect? Iron Man is it.
Incidentally, my opinion is that Batman is a TERRIBLE leader. Very obviously, I'm something of a loner in that opinion... but I wouldn't pick him to lead a team.
So, for all overall purposes, I guess I might go with...
Captain America ($5) Captain Marvel ($1) Black Widow ($3) Black Panther ($2) Green Lantern ($3)
And the last dollar? I'd blow it on Jarvis or Alfred to run my support staff.

Green Lantern, and the Flash

If we're allowed to pick more than one per column, that changes my whole strategy.

Oh, I totally agree with Wallace. I take the top three wild cards and the bottom two muscle...
But I guess that wasn't the original intent. :D

Clearly it's one from each category. The Leader, The Muscle. etc.
I'll have a team with five leaders please!
Anyway, my picks would be:
Professor X as leader. Always seems to know what on his team-mates' minds... Thor as the muscle. Can't go too far wrong with a god on your side. Cable as the enforcer. Because he's cheap... Mr Fantastic as the technician. World's smartest man? We think you're an asset to the team. Green Lantern as the wild card. Cos Spidey doesn't belong on a team! And GL can drop a mountain on your foes.
And a packet of Haribo Starmix with the change.

my first reaction:Captain America ($5) Because duh. Shazam ($1) I like CaptainMarvel, but not Billy. Black Widow ($3) She was my last pick to be honest. Black Panther ($2) Tech and fighting ability, Flash ($4) You got to have speed.
I'm off to see what my alt team might be........
Batman ($4) Because he is so versatile and plans ahead. Thor ($3) Because I think he is the all-around most balanced muscle. Cable ($1) For a buck, is a steal. Mr. Fantastic ($3) The man can build anything he needs. Flash ($4) you got to have speed...;-)

I was discussing this with my son earlier and he questioned my picking Mr. Fantastic over Iron Man as my technician. I defended my pick by saying that Tony Stark can build a set of armor that can take on the Hulk. But Mr. Fantastic could build the TARDIS. He agreed with my pick.

Bringing the image forward because my memory just ain't what it used to be.
Cap for $5, 'cause he's my favorite character outta all these folks. Shazam for $1. I'd prefer to go all Marvel, but he's the biggest bargain here and it helps me avoid characters in other categories that I just don't like. Bummer there's no Ben Grimm or Sasquatch. Black Widow $3. Eh. At least it's not Cable. Mr Fantastic for $3. Another bargain. The smartest man alive and probably the greatest inventor? No brainer. Green Lantern $3, because I don't have enough for Spider-Man, but this is arguably the most powerful member of my team.

Here are my picks:
Captain America $5 (A good case has been made for Prof. X but I like Cap better.) Wonder Woman $2 (Superman is my first choice but I couldn't afford him.) Hawkgirl $2 Mr. Fantastic $3 Green Lantern $3
My choices were based largely on which characters have worked well in teams and gave preference to those with super powers and/or vehicles. Shazam/Captain Marvel would be a good choice if he's the 1940s version but not if he's the inexperienced 80s verson from Justice League International.
