Dear DC/Marvel
Years ago, you did ESSENTIAL/SHOWCASE volumes, black-and-white paperback reprints of various titles such as The Amazing Spider-Man/Superman. The range was very popular. The line was discontinued years ago, replaced with the EPIC COLLECTION, which reprints classic titles in colour, although not always sequentially.
I am writing to you to suggest looking into releasing a line which focuses on supervillains, preferably reprinting their adventures in chronological order.
The likes of Galactus/Green Goblin/Joker/Darkseid have stood the test of time. IGN has consistently ranked them among the top villains in various polls. Many superhero titles have been reprinted more than once, both in ESSENTIAL/SHOWCASE volumes, but various TPBs, too. Whilst there may have been some collections devoted to supervillains, they have been few and far between - and not necessarily sequential.
It could be argued that comic readers read the books as much for the villains as the heroes (what good is a hero without a good villain to oppose him/her?). I feel that a collection devoted to the sequential appearances of your top supervillains would be popular with many fans. I know that you could only judge them long-term based on sales, but a limited line of supervillain-only reprints is something that I think could work, especially for the more popular characters.
Thank you for reading, I hope this is something you would at least consider.
Kind regards
Yours faithfully
Robert Parry
EDIT: Is SHOWCASE still a thing? Or does DC now have an equivalent to Marvel's EPIC line?
