I've put a surprising amount of thought into this over the past few days. I decided I wanted to rank them in order (because making things more complicated than they need to be is kind of my thing).
1. The Incredible Hulk - My initial reaction was FF or Alpha for first place, but this six issue run is really my favorite. The Hulk was one of the first comics I was exposed to as a child and he had been almost unrecognizable for years before JB took it over. Without negating anything that had come before, JB immediately brought the book back to the characters I loved at breakneck speed. Absolutely heartbreaking that we didn't get to see where this book would've gone under JB.
2. The Fantastic Four - The first time I ever cared enough to figure out who was writing and drawing a book was on JB's FF (although for years I thought it was John Byron). I'll give Stan and Jack all the credit in the world for creating these characters, but for me JB is the one that brought them to life. A timeless masterpiece.
3. Alpha Flight - The best of soap opera comics with the benefit of being completely unpredictable! I loved the format. I loved the characters. And I loved being there from the very beginning. Pure Byrne goodness.
4. OMAC - A period piece in black and white using Zip-a-tone. While it was a great story, this one wins for the art alone. Beautiful.
5. Doomsday.1 - This one was in heavy competition with another comic for 5th place, but ultimately Doomsday.1 won. It's the first comic I've read in probably 20 years that brought back those Hulk/FF/Alpha feelings of anticipation, and the art is hands down the best that JB ever produced.
