Left out: Two votes (from Paul Go and my fellow countryman Yvan Jullien) which rewarded two series simultaneously (Trio and Triple Helix) and Josh Goldberg's pick of hand-drawn « Star Trek » I didn't know what to do with. Sorry guys. Feel free to precise your choices.

********

Hmm, since they read like one, I considered them one.  Triple Helix I think edges out Trio tho, since I have to choose.

it clearly states in the opening post that separate mini-series should be treated separately. That the STAR TREK issues have follow on stories is irrelevant in that scenario,

Correct.  Naming a litany of follow-up mini-series just to include a whole host of other titles violates the rules.

Guys, I made this hard because I wanted to make it hard. That was the point.  If I had said "name your Top 20", it would be boring.  We'd all have the same list and be arguing only over where they fell.  I chose a Top Five because I wanted you to choose, to make the hard decision, to critically evaluate your choices and not just fall into an easy top ten or top twenty list.  Play along and don't cheat.  If you can't do that, don't post your opinion.

Easy, right?

Matt, great thread but it is aching me that I completely forgot one of my favourite JB titles in the rush to select my five. Is it is cheating to edit my post or add another post with my tweak my selection?

Totally respect your decision either way and, for clarity, its a choice uninfluenced by anything posted already.

Thanks.

I've put a surprising amount of thought into this over the past few days. I decided I wanted to rank them in order (because making things more complicated than they need to be is kind of my thing).

1. The Incredible Hulk - My initial reaction was FF or Alpha for first place, but this six issue run is really my favorite. The Hulk was one of the first comics I was exposed to as a child and he had been almost unrecognizable for years before JB took it over. Without negating anything that had come before, JB immediately brought the book back to the characters I loved at breakneck speed. Absolutely heartbreaking that we didn't get to see where this book would've gone under JB.

2. The Fantastic Four - The first time I ever cared enough to figure out who was writing and drawing a book was on JB's FF (although for years I thought it was John Byron). I'll give Stan and Jack all the credit in the world for creating these characters, but for me JB is the one that brought them to life. A timeless masterpiece.

3. Alpha Flight - The best of soap opera comics with the benefit of being completely unpredictable! I loved the format. I loved the characters. And I loved being there from the very beginning. Pure Byrne goodness.

4. OMAC - A period piece in black and white using Zip-a-tone. While it was a great story, this one wins for the art alone. Beautiful.

5. Doomsday.1 - This one was in heavy competition with another comic for 5th place, but ultimately Doomsday.1 won. It's the first comic I've read in probably 20 years that brought back those Hulk/FF/Alpha feelings of anticipation, and the art is hands down the best that JB ever produced.

Uncanny X-men... by a mile
Superman... by a half of a mile
X-men Hidden Years
Sensational She-Hulk (particularly the return)
Fantastic Four

It is so hard to whittle down... my list is void of creator-owner work... preposterous! I am more of a "DC" guy, but my list is 4/5ths Marvel...

Interesting task when prompted to think it through!

My top 5 is driven by nostalgia, but I love pretty much the entire body of JB's work.
1. Uncanny X-men
2. Fantastic Four
3. Alpha Flight
4. Action Comics
5. Captain America

Alpha Flight
Fantastic Four
Uncanny X-Men
Namor
Legends mini-series

The last one is tough because I like so many of the other runs like WC Avengers and Cold War, just not as much as my top 4.

X-Men
Marvel Team up
Fantastic Four
X-Men Hidden Years
Generations

Starlord would have made the top five had it been a series.
