Marvel says artists don't matter yet their best selling books over the past few years have been the Star Wars ones and they've put all their best artists on them. If artists don't matter, why not put their lesser talents on the book that should sell itself on name alone? Answer: Because the artists absolutely matter.
JB summed it up perfectly in his comment earlier.
Also interesting how Marvel wants to blame everything for their poor sales other than the fact they are the most over-priced books on the stands with the cheapest cover stock. Remember when the indie books were more expensive than Marvel's?

I'm gonna be the bad guy for saying this but if there is a correlation between sales and diversity and gender it's because the audience is 40 year old virgins complete with their prejudices and misogyny. The wrong people are buying comics it should be kids 10 year olds to 16 years olds. legacy heroes? make the heroes for this generation not the old generation .Grampas Flash was Jay Garrick,Dads was Barry Allen, the Sons was Wally West and the next generations Flash ... well they didn't get one because some 40 year old whined that they wanted their Barry Allen back and the entire industry turned its back on the millennials.

Was Powerman in danger of being cancelled before the TPTB decided to add Iron Fist in the book?•• Both titles were close to the chopping block. It was thought combining them might create a new audience out of the "overlap". Later, it was found IRON FIST was selling better than thought, and the joke became that the book should have been called IRON FIST AND POWER MAN.

While its absolutely true that the wrong people are buying comics, 10 year olds aren't interested in reading gay romance comics about Iceman or Batgirl having a conversation with her trans friend about being misgendered at the mall.
The problem isn't that the comics audience are all 40 year old bigots. The problem is companies like Marvel targetting their superhero comics at 40 year old white liberals.

Yes, and when Marvel (briefly) handed Thor's hammer to Beta Ray Bill, they were targeting extra terrestrial readers.

When Roger Stern gave us Monica Rambeau as the new Captain Marvel, THAT was diversity.
The race and gender swapping Marvel's engaged in now is just the latest stunt to keep a dying industry on life support, and get a lot of chatter going for their product.
At least this Miss America is a NEW character...

I'm all for new superheroes of diverse backgrounds. But as fan of superhero comics that's not enough. I want new powers, new stories. Or at the very least stuff I've seen before, but done with a fresh take. When the focus is taken off the superheroism, the stories become something else. I would rather read a novel or watch T.V. for those kinds of stories.

Monica Rambeau was an awesome character. It was a shame of what the editors did to make her look bad. It was from that moment that she became irrelevant.
I wonder if this Miss America will have any linkage to the Atlas/Timely character from the 40s/50s?

---
When Monica Rameau first appeared, I was pleased to see a new, powerful WoC joining the ranks of Marvel superheroes. I don't think Captain Marvel was ever a good name for her though. Is she going by the name Photon or Spectrum now?
