It is a balancing act for me. I can't possibly afford every back issue. "The Many Deaths Of The Batman" TPB features issues that might have cost a lot to buy individually.
I prefer it, though. I get a lot of enjoyment out of looking at old ads in addition to letters.

I'd never notice if a letters page was missing, it's not something that has ever really interested me. Not that I didn't write a few as a kid but, really, I read comics for storytelling, not to read letters from fans.
I'm not an especially nostalgic person when it comes to comics. I just want to read good stories.

Oh, John, you disappoint me. ;-)
The enjoyment of the stories will always be paramount to me, but the classic ads and letters pages in back issues are very much "lovely gravy".

I love it that the few omnibuses I have include the letters pages. I'm sad to see Bill's report that this has been discontinued, especially if this means that the Alpha Flight one won't contain them. I'm still buying it, though!

I have not come across any omnibuses which have had letters pages in. Unlucky, I guess.
Are there any legal barriers that would prevent original ads (i.e. Charles Atlas' bodybuilding course) from being reprinted in a TPB?

I used to love reading the letters pages. And very occasionally I'd actually send in a letter myself, and it was such a thrill to see it published. I actually got one published in a JB issue of HULK - which is kind of embarrassing to read now (the letter, not the issue!).

And wasn't it great, years ago, when writing a letter meant effort?
For a Brit, I had to write it out (I didn't get a home PC until the 90s). I had to print it off. I had to find an envelope. And then I head to head to the post office to request an airmail stamp. And then off it went. I tried to make each letter strong enough to be considered for publication.
Nowadays, people, including trolls, would simply hit "Enter".
Yes, there are still folk who want to make an effort, but for a minority, it's easier to log-on to the Facebook page of, say, DC and type:
"U r crap. I will quit ur comics!"

An important thing, Robbie, the differences in efforts between writing and mailing a letter or posting a tweet. And I would only make that effort if I really LIKED something.

It did make one put more effort in. Sure, I'd put effort in to post a Facebook comment for the attention of DC or Marvel. But would it be the best I could do? Might I not be a little lazy given the convenience of doing it from my Chromebook?
When you have to print something off, find an envelope, buy an airmail stamp and then find a postbox, you do put effort in. ;-)

Regarding letters pages in Omnibus editions,as mentioned FF vol 2 has them,and if memory serves me,so does the J.B.,Cockrum,Claremont Uncanny X-Men vol 1.Can anyone else with Omnibus editions say if their titles do?

yes I have great pleasure reading the letters on older comics. It's one of the reasons for buying preferably single comics over TPBs. And thanks to the internet, I was able to uncover the TM Maple mystery !
