I've never seen an invisible helmet. (Paraphrased and stolen from "Time Bandits.")

Great ads from everyone!

I think the toy ads, though appealing, well I already had toys like that. What really appealed to me were the ads for courses. I loved the one where someone quit their dead-end job (a photo strip!) because they'd gone to night school to get an electronics qualification.

I can't find it via Bing images, but Pele had a soccer fan club (may have been called Pele Soccer Fan Club) advertised in many comics. How disappointing when you saw "US/Canada only".

I think part of my reason for wanting to move to the US as a kid was to take advantage of all those things that were only available in North America!

The Charles Atlas ad was certainly iconic.  But it made me a little sad that the kid does all that weightlifting (which all occurs off screen between two panels) just to impress this rather shallow, rude girl.

Is this b*tch really worth the effort?

At least there are two other women who immediately take approving notice of Mac after he sucker assaults the Bluto knucklehead.

Rick, you are right, she was definitely not worth it! Being bought up on the likes of Mary Jane,Gwen Stacy,Janet Van Dyne etc i aspired to women with a little more depth!

There is a different version of that ad where, instead of subscribing to a Charles Atlas bodybuilding course, he clashes with the bully over comics. Instead of punching him at the end, he shows about 3 comics and puts them near the bully's face.

How many comics got cut up because of this ad (which ran all summer one year)?
