The Egyptian Hawkman origin centers on reincarnation and Hath-Set as the villain--changed to Vandal Savage for the LEGENDS OF TOMORROW TV show.  Reincarnation tempts the writer to kill somebody and follow a new incarnation--which they did with Shiera and Kendra Saunders!  The Egyptian motif could have multiple story potential in theory, but in practice it ends up centering on Hath-Set and revenge--and Hath-Set (or the TV version of Vandal Savage) is just not a very compelling arch-villain.
They still managed to get decades worth of stories out the character  without giving in to that temptation. Hath-Set dies at the end of the origin and was only revived some 40 years later and was never an arch enemy. I think he only became one this decade. The Egyptian connection informs Hawkman's look. Part of his gimmick is ancient weapons which tie in the Egyptian origin and the amateur archaeologist background. He's Indiana Jones with  wings.

Frankly the Hawkman set up works better with Reincarnation and archaeology than alien cops visiting earth

I've enjoyed reading through this thread. It takes me back to the comic book store discussion of my youth.

Spider-Man I think his is the best origin story.
The Spectre
Adam Warlock
Daredevil
Captain Marvell (Fawcett)

Spider-Man and Batman have probably the two best origin stories in comics, but both have been done to death both in comics and film, probably because they work so well and resonate with almost everyone.

I think Superman has a great origin story too. It's simple and powerful. My favorite take on it is in JB's Man of Steel.

I think some characters work best without an origin story. Wolverine is a good example. Phantom Stranger is another. Neither of those characters benefited from their origins being eventually revealed.
