They've now published the full catalog of this revamp, and something has happened that I honestly never believed would happen:

Marvel's cancelled all the X-Men titles.

No X-Men/Force/Factor...no Wolverine...

When they cancelled Fantastic Four and put the Thing and Johnny into other books, I got it, with the Fox mess and FF not having been a sales champion in recent memory.  But all of the X-Books gone?  Bwha?

All that's solicited going forward is 'The Death of X', where they're killing off all of the X-characters that haven't been farmed out to other teams/books (like Cyclops in Champions, several characters in Avengers...)  Deadpool is literally the last man standing.

I read reports that comics are selling more than they have in years.
Have the movies finally paid off in print?

I'm still staying away from regular comic collecting like it will do me physical harm, but if people are buying (in respectable numbers) then more power to all involved.

Anecdotally, the movies have brought in more female and younger
readers. Inflation adjusted, it's still well below 90's levels. A big chunk of
the growth in the industry is trade paperbacks.

And Marvel has been taking a pummeling since DC started Rebirth.  Rather than following a similar 'back to basics' approach, they're doubling down on changing everything.  I just got back from my LCS.  To quote my retailer, "Yeah, heaven help us if they gave me comics with characters that sell.  No, I have to try to sell Squirrel Girl and Prowler comics."

Do his job, in other words?

Not to come even within hailing distance of playing Devil's Advocate here, but I long ago grew weary of those retailers who think the job of the companies is to produce guaranteed sales, and the job of the retailers is to collect the cash.

That need to generate "guaranteed sales" is what drives the companies to the same dry trough, over and over and over.

David Perrin, you may want to throw in a spoiler warning as there are some that do read Marvel's current comics.

Sorry Joseph.  I deleted the entire line.  Just be warned that Marvel has no intention of letting this incident sneak up on you (like they should!)

They're blabbering about it all over the place.

In this case, 'she', and I understand your point, JB.  But I don't think her being mad that Marvel is cancelling their Tony Stark/Iron Man comics and replacing them with a comic about a fifteen year old girl as Iron Man is completely out of line.  Or cancelling all of the X-Books, which sell consistently well for her, and replacing them with more spinoff Guardians of the Galaxy solo series for Gamora and Rocket Raccoon.

I get that the companies don't need any further disincentive toward taking risks, but I also understand how she feels that Marvel's animus toward Fox studios and other odd decisions are costing her customers.

Nope. Those "high sales" are mainly due to the usual sales boosting gimmicks like rare variant covers, incentives, the "death" of a major character, crossovers, new #1's,a new (or old) minority or female hero taking over the role of a major white male hero, and controversial mainstream news media grabbing social political stories (like the retconned outing of Ice Man).

Aren't there also Lootcrate and other comic blind boxes that artificially inflate sales?

======
Yep. When Marvel's STAR WARS #1 came out,
word was it sold about 3 million copies.
Sales for the book were excellent but Loot
Crate made up about half of that. To be
fair, that doesn't cover every book, every
month.
