That second Luthor looks more like Wayne Boring's work.

I'd grown up enjoying the Swan 'version' of Supes, but really enjoyed JB's take at face value.

I didn't mind the changes at all. All I asked (and still do) from a comic book was an entertaining yarn, with characters I like. MOS delivered!!!

ITEM: I agree with Mr. Byrne about it being Wayne Boring's Luthor (as if you need MY verification.)

ITEM: I have heard - probably third or fourth hand - that there was a storyline to get Superman exactly where he was at the end of MOS #6 - but starting from the last Superman stories, instead of starting from scratch. I cannot say who is right or wrong... but it seems that it was a possibility.

ITEM: Crisis on Infinite Earths would have worked if it had ended with a single Earth's creation, rather than having two issues on the new Earth - the post-Crisis Earth - with pre-Crisis characters all over the landscape. Simple examples - how was the Marvel Family in COIE #12? How did every living being, including the JSA, forget Wonder Woman of Earth-2?

ITEM: The aftermath would have been more consistent (not necessarily better) if Crisis had indeed restarted ALL the DC comics. But Green Lantern and Batman were selling well, and DC apparently couldn't restart those. So... some all new properties (Superman and Wonder Woman), and some carryover properties (Batman and Robin and Green Lantern and the New Teen Titans) and some that no one was quite sure about (Hawkman, Aquaman, Swamp Thing.)

Badly planned, poorly executed, and a reason to screw up their DC comic books every five to ten years forever.

…Supes…

••

Three additional key strokes would have taxed you too greatly?

*****

And you are right. I was multitasking and distracted by the CNN news insanity. Wayne Boring did the interior art on that story "The Defeat of Superman" written by Bill Finger. Al Plastino drew the cover to that issue, only. I've edited the post to accurately credit Wayne Boring for that Luthor art.
