I genuinely can't believe there isn't some form of joined up corporate thinking that says, people who see the films would buy more comics if they could read about those characters (or similar versions thereof).

Instead, it seems to be that the comics are hell bent on putting different people in the costumes.

Why?????

This is nothing new. When SUPERMAN - THE MOVIE came out, Clark Kent was a mild mannered reported for a great Metropolitan newspaper. In the comics, he was a TV anchorman. Anyone inspired by the movie to check out the comics would have found unknown territory.

But why? Is there any kind of reasoning behind this? Even if I disagree, I suppose there must be a reason for this strange move.

A big part of the "reasoning" is that comics are created and controlled nowadays almost entirely by people who grew up reading comics, and to whom all the longstanding tropes are old news. They assume this to be the case for the readers, too, so everything has to be "shaken up" every once in a while to stay "fresh."

New readers are pretty much forgotten.

Part of the idea is to create the idea of forward momentum in the regular titles. If you picked up a Hulk comic after seeing the movie and everything was just as you expected it to be, Marvel editorial believes your curiosity would be satisfied and you would never need to pick up a Hulk comic again. You'd be done.

If, on the other hand, you see the film, and pick up the comic expecting to find Bruce Banner and instead come across Amadeus Cho, you'll be wigged out! Excited! On the edge of your seat! How- how did this happen, you'll ask yourself, and you'll come back to find out the answer to that and the other sixty unaddressed questions the book raises...

You'll already be exploring the vast creative future of Marvel Comics, territory where the films have yet to go... But will go eventually, once they catch up to these brilliant, young maverick Marvel creators out there on the frontier, throwing the world for a loop on a monthly basis!

You don't give the audience what they think they want. You give them what they never knew they needed..!
