My god. No one does machinery like John Byrne. Nobody. •• Unfortunately, in those days that was a BAD thing! I have learned so much! It's almost painful -- no, it IS painful! -- to scroll thru this thread and look at the old stuff. Yes, the best I could do at the time, so nothing to be ashamed of, but all I can see is what I want to fix!!!

Without question, the scene from Danger Unlimited, showing the Carson family on that old river boat in the Amazon Basin; so evocative of a time when the world seemed to be filled with mystery, and where exotic adventure seemed to lurk around every corner!
It strikes me as ironic, in fact, that in a medium that takes us to outer space, or to the Negative Zone, or to the Microverse, or to undersea kingdoms, the most mysterious and exotic scene that I can think of, takes place on a rickety old river boat in our very own world. Perhaps that's why it's stayed with me for as long as it has. And you know what? Thank you, JB. Not just for this scene, but thank you for sharing all of the aforementioned scenes with us.

Ah, and of course another one comes to mind as I think about it...
"Okay, suckers -- you've taken yer best shot!
NOW IT'S MY TURN!"
I still get chills.

I think that image of Wolverine from UNCANNY X-MEN #132 is iconic.
Runners up: Heather sees Mac die in ALPHA FLIGHT #12 final splash page of MAN OF STEEL #1 (Superman takes flight in costume for the first time) She-Hulk joins the FF post-Secret Wars in FANTASTIC FOUR #265 ending scene of LAB RATS #8, where there's every indication that the Campus may be shut down for now, but it will all start again sometime...

few more scenes come to mind…. JB's too short run on CAPTAIN AMERICA…. enjoyed this issue especially… …this scene is often brought up for good reasons…
Great splash page from JB's OMAC…
Plus, this quiet scene is one of a few that made my young self 'fall in love' with Frankie Raye's ex-rookie Julie Angel…
I'm sure a few more scenes will spring up if I think hard about it… but this thread covers a lot of ground already!
C!

Terrax vs Doctor Doom vs The Silver Surfer, from FF 260. Is my favorite action scene.
But all time favorite has to be Superman #4. When Bloodsport sees his brother at the end and breaks down. The emotion that JB conveys through his storytelling, rips my heart out every time.

When I was young and it was all new to me: FF #243, Terrax had shown his might all the previous issue, but Galactus swats him like a bug. Well, not exactly like a bug; as Reed says, "He's releasing the full force of his energies against Terrax! Shield your eyes or they may be melted right out of their sockets!"
That is what I read comics for!

I love the idea of eyes being melted from their sockets by LOOKING at something. Of course, if that happened the whole face would be seared away, but melting eyes is such a terrific metaphor!

The ending of ALPHA FLIGHT #12 is STILL a kick in the gut.

Yes Eric, I was 12 or so at the time and it devastated me!
