"What qualifies this (or any) as an "adult" coloring book?"
My wife has got into these and uses them to relax. She has several and when her girlfriends come over, they will all get into them, even revisiting the pieces till they are finished.
I will add to JB's comment, based on my wife's books, that the subject matter and the required attention to detail make them ill-appropriate for the youth market.
My wife's first coloring book was from the series Outlander. The is a subject that we would not let your 10 year old watch, or read the novels, for sure.
On the other hand, there are Harry Potter adult coloring books. While the content is perfectly suited for all ages, the lines and spacing require an adept hand and an attention to detail that could be frustrating to the average child. Though I just discovered that the Harry Potter books are still put out by Scholastic, so what do I know?
