That is just fantastic -- excellent image, and really great to see Leornard O'Grady's colors. This is one of the most unexpected JB projects to come down the pike - I think we all owe Scott Adsit a big thank you for starting the thread that kicked this whole thing off.
I was just in Barnes and Noble last week and saw their coloring book display. I did not know that all ages coloring books was A Thing until this book was announced. I like seeing that this is happening - any kind of slow, meditative art experioence is good in a society that can get overwhelmed with the technological distractions we get on our cell phones.

Just pre-ordered two for myself.
JB, I have to say, this maybe my favorite project of yours to date. The sketches that became the foundation of this, are favorites of mine. I've always felt they had a Moebius/METAL HURLANT feel to them. I hope it's a great success for you and IDW.

Chris recently made the interesting observation that the coloring book looks like Moebius drawing a Kirby world. I'll take it!

I went to Amazon to add it to my wishlist and saw the Star Brand book listed, too. When I clicked on its link, I saw this:
About the Author John Byrne, originally from Dublin, Ireland, is one of Britain's top cartoonists, comedy writers and stand-up comedians with wide-ranging experience in performance, production and the teaching of creative skills. He is currently the resident artist on Nickelodeon TV (UK), drawing live and unscripted, and often with "art materials" that include everything from sausages to toothbrushes to TV presenters with luminous paint in their hair. He has a six year-old son Pearse, is married to Fumi, and has a house full of teen in-laws (who he loves dearly—especially since realizing the importance of babysitters!).

Speaking of links… When I clicked the one Andrew posted, it took me to a place that included the following message.
"In Vegas for a few days for the Star Trek Creation Con. Look for this banner at both #54 and you’ll spot us alongside John Byrne, doing his first convention in well over a decade."
:-O

Chris Ryall and I were wondering this weekend about fan reaction to doing an actual comic in this style, with Len's coloring.

I think fans would dig it. This style combined with that coloring looks awesome.

JB if this style gets your creative juices flowing, then by all means GO FOR IT! Count me in, I'd love to have a reason to darken the comic shop door again.

I would be on board like crazy for a comic inked by you in this style, specifically a sic-fi comic. I had found the inks on 'The High Ways' a bit more rugged looking than I 'see' on works with high-technology, which (thanks, I guess, to Lebbeus Woods, Syd Mead, Ralph McQuarrie and other 70's era futurists) I see as very much about contour and fill, very clean and uncluttered. "The High Ways" packed the punch of your unique and dynamic designs and staging (the latter of which I'm guessing is knowing EXACTLY where to place the camera), and this coloring book already has those, plus the kind of clean line that gives it that exact hum I want in great sci-fi comics and illustration.
