JB, is there an age group that this would be inappropriate for?  I want to plan my gift-giving accordingly.

Pre-teens, maybe. But who knows?

I just ordered my copy!

My mom is an avid 'colorist' and has a collection of color pencils that I greatly envy.  So I'm looking forward to sitting with her at her 'studio' (her dining room table) and joining her in coloring.

My goal is to get her to do a page in 'Stowaway To The Stars'.  She's addicted to butterflies and birds right now!

Here's a peek at another of Leonard O'Grady's color plates. . .

Very nicely done, Mr. O'Grady. I almost wish I hadn't abandoned the Byrne appreciation pages on Facebook. The unwritten title of those pages is "See me color Byrne line art", but I kinda wish I could see the reaction since there is so much back patting and kudos awarded to horrid coloring jobs. Something like this would most likely be met with deafening silence.

One thing I am especially enjoying about Len's colors is that there is a whisper of DAN DARE in them -- the fully rendered colors with black holding lines. The DARE pages had more blacks on them, but the effect is still much the same.

That must be a comparison you enjoy, JB. I know you hold the DARE art in high regard. For me, Mr. O'Grady's restraint with the tools at his desposal is what I find most enjoyable. For instance, the radial gradient on the ship's nose is used to show texture of a material and isn't slathered all over every panel on the image. He uses the tools, but with restraint and logic.

Slightly off topic, but with more powerful tools we are bound to see even more people that try to skip the work of getting good as an artist. This seems to be one powerful new brush tool: Expresii Release Video.

Has this been solicited in Diamond's Previews yet? I asked my LCS to order it, but they say they have not seen it yet.

This will be the first coloring book I've ever purchased for myself. I'm half tempted to buy one to color and one to have in B&W.
