I would lean to leaving it open.
The whole point is to leave the colours in the hands of the customer, n'est ce pas?

…a color picture of the crew on the cover would tip people off to what color hair they have, etc. •• That's something I'm trying to avoid, tho. I don't want any hint of telling people what color to make various characters, ships, etc. I want everyone to have a free hand. No "intended" colors.

Meanwhile, Chris informs me I have arrived with this project just in time for a downsizing of the product in general. Instead of 64 pages, this will now be 48, so 24 images.(I'll confess, that makes life a bit easier. Also means I'll be finished sooner!)

Wow - I just stumbled into this thread - what a great idea!
My wife got into the adult coloring book thing last summer and got me a couple (zombies, muscle cars and a steampunk book). I fiddled around with them a bit, but I will definitely keep an eye out for yours, JB.
Scott Adsit, you are an evil genius...thank you!

" it'd be 180gsm -- a nice, uncoated, heavy stock."

Perfect!

Well heck, I'm looking forward to at least three copies now... one for me, one for the kids (my two daughters might tackle it), and one to keep, just for the sure-to-be glorious artwork!

I don't want any hint of telling people what color to make various characters, ships, etc. I want everyone to have a free hand. No "intended" colors.------------------------------------------ Your mutant ability is not restricted to naturally 'getting' comics -- you also 'get' colouring books!
Can't wait to get my hands on this.
As a completely separate issue, the term 'adult colouring books' conjures a rather saucy image in my mind.

"Adult" is a word that has picked up a lot of baggage. Rather like "graphic" and, well, another word I'd probably get in trouble for mentioning. When I've told friends about this coloring book project, I've had to prefix with a definition of what I mean by "adult." (One friend insisted on not getting it no matter how hard I tried. "So, boobies?" sigh)

Chris Ryall...In addition to these JB colouring books, I now also need a collection of all the Hostess Fruit Pie ads. Thanks.

Looking forward to this. Have the Charles Vess and the subsequent Charles Vess/Mike Kaluta ones. They're really nice. Doubt I will color them but might give a few to nieces/nephews for that.

I thought all of those Artist Editions I've been buying are adult coloring books...
Oops.
