Yeah, I missed that one. :/

Without going too off-topic, knowing how much Kraven relishes a challenge, I'm surprised he hasn't gone after the likes of the Lizard. Why only superheroes? Surely he'd relish the chance to take on Lizard?

Oh yeah.  I automatically think of the blue, furry version whenever I think of the Beast.  Even in this discussion of the original X-Men.  Well, how about a rematch?

My memories of Prof X and the Original X-Men are a bit fuzzy.

Before all the hideous retcons and character betrayals at the hands of writers, how strong was Prof X's moral center compared to his power level - what's the extent he'd go to in a combat situation when using his powers?

Ronald Joseph - if my memory serves, Professor X tapped the entire mental set of humanity to battle off the Z'nox. So a ninety pound weakling he was not. As for morals... hard to say. After the fact that he was a good guy, he did what was necessary to win - and he played dead, convincing the X-Men he had passed, in order to prepare for a battle. But it was Marvel in the 60s... how many moral turns were there?

Since we're going for one on ones, rather than bring Professor X into the field I say we dip into the very brief period where the Mimic was part of the team. So my match-ups:

The Mimic vs. Mysterio
Beast vs. Kraven
Angel vs. Vulture
Iceman vs. Sandman
Marvel Girl vs. Electro
Cyclops vs. Dr. Octopus

Good guys win, of course. :-)

I see the individual match ups working in the villains favor. They're really just a bunch of solo dudes, no team players.  The X-men lose a lot when broken up.  I think one of their top advantages is teamwork.  Using their powers in unison.   Anyhow, as laid out I'll still go with the X-men to win.

X used his powers to wipe the memory of the Vanisher, AND the Blob and his entire circus troupe.

Don't beat yourself up over it. With the Stealth Marketing to which Marvel subjected HIDDEN YEARS, it's a wonder ANYONE read it!

Seeing as the Sinister Six probably would not play by the rules, they would send Kraven in ahead using his incredible hunting stealth to sneak up behind X and neutralize him. Since Kraven does not have any super powers (originally) the good Professor would not be able to sense him coming.
The rest of the battle ;
Vulture v. Angel- I'm ok with a good dog fight.
Beast v. Electro- Hank with his intelligence in tact will figure it out.
Marvel Girl v. Mysterio- Fun one
Cyclops v. Sandman- Maybe Scott's optic blasts can turn him to glass.
Iceman v. Dr. Octopus - I'd like to see this ,has it ever happened?
The X-men win in a two parter !

Scott's beams aren't hot; their effects are concussive.
