Morrison likes to toy with the possibilties of what would happen if Darkseid won, but after he plays with the idea he puts it all back to normal.  It's an idea that's almost natural to kick around due to the amazingly cynical times we live in.  I suspect this is the same kind of deal.

We've seen one whole-issue featuring one of the revamped characters!

The great thing about DC is that continuity doesn't matter.  Writers aren't overly constrained by it and are free to do their real job, telling fun stories that someone will like.

I don't agree with that at all.  Is continuity less important at DC than at Marvel?  Arguable. Does continuity not matter at all at DC?  No.

I think TEEN TITANS and GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH are pretty continuity heavy titles. So i agree with Matt.

and I think several instances of a continuity light approach at Marvel can be seen.

So I think Marvel, generally and historically, takes it a little more serious, but DC is pretty strong with it too, outside of a couple of reboots.

Not to sound surly or anything, BUT

If they do drop them out of continuity, this is not very different than the recent reboots of Doom Patrol or Demon.....although in the cases of these, they are reboots to pieces closer to the original.....

But still, if you defend one,  you might have to defend the other as well. In my opinion, if we don't agree with the reboot, don't buy it.  speak with thine pocketbook.

Hope I don't get flamed too hard here.

David

I, personally have nothing against a reboot where such a thing is required. I'm only stating that I'm fed up with my fellow countrymen feeling like they need to tear down established Superheroes and continuity for what appears to the layman as self promotion.

This is the first time I've ever heard of a leave them the way you found them rule for the X-Men being applied to, well, anybody.

Len Wein is in a lot of trouble...

Not a valid answer at all.  There was a little something at the top of Wein's book that read "the all-new, all-different....".  Wanna try again?

Wasn't Morrison's book also called New X-Men?

Besides which, isn't it just understood that Grant Morrison's name implies "all-new, all-different"...on whatever he's writing? ;)

More to the point, I'm getting a vibe that the SEVEN SOLDIERS event is unlikely to seriously affect DC continuity like VILLAINS UNITED, DAY OF VENGEANCE, COUNTDOWN and all those other event-based series in the pipeline. I think it's pretty much going to be a Grant Morrison opus and nothing more.
