Because he moved, dumb@$$, so there's no point going to Fairfield, and I don't have the new address....

<sheesh, gotta explain everything to that O'Brien guy...>

I've been careful, this time, about not indicating which wee town I have moved to. Still in CT, yes -- but that's as much info as anybody needs, I figger!

How can we Google Earth the New Byrne Manor if we don't even know the town? (just kidding- hope you're enjoying the place more by the day)

Suddenly I am even more convinced that JB moved because I knew where he lived.

I resurrect this thread to mention that today is one year since I first saw what became my new house. My buddy Roger Price was in town, and we drove up from the old Manor in Fairfield to take a look. Fell in love with the place instantly. Took a while -- as this thread indicates -- for everything to "fall into place", but now I've been actually living her over four months. Ay-mazing!

What was the biggest surprise with the new digs?

The silence. In the first few weeks, living "out in the woods" as I am now, the lack of exterior sound beyond wind in the trees and birds (and an occasional aircraft overhead) was almost like a physical pressue on my ears. Having spent 20 years living only two blocks away from Interstate-95, I knew there would be a difference, but I had not anticipated how great a difference it would be!

How 'bout the lack of stairs?  If I remember, SBM had a mighty steep stairway.  Do you miss the climb and the old house being more vertical, or are you enjoying fewer stairs and the more horizontal layout of the new home?

Also, looking back through this thread, how is the Eames Chair treating you?

I know the feeling, I've outside of Detroit most of my life except for the summer of 04.  I lived in a tiny one stoplight town in northern Michigan.  Never could get used to the small town feel, the town shutting down at 6 pm, the clean air, lack of background noise, and to be honest the "town folk."

Back at the manor, I had a standard joke that it was impossible to get from any part of the house to any other part of the house without having to go up stairs. That was with 6000 square feet, on three levels. The now-not-so-new place is 5000 sq. ft. (excluding the studio) all on one level, so my new line is that anything I need is always at the other end of the house.
