Bed, Schmed. As a kid, friends of mine used to house the school's track and field cushions in their barn, and they would climb up to the top of the barn and dive what must have been fifty feet or more down into these cushions. I never did it myself, but watching them do it reminded me of what Superboy probably would have looked like when he flew.

Mr. Byrne's new place should be called The Greenery plain and simple. I haven't read everything in this thread, I'm sorry if somebody came up with it already.

JB, if you need any mortgage help/advice, I'm in the biz. I'm sure you have it covered, but I'd thought I'd offer.

So, this just occurred to me...clearly the architectural styles of SBM and John Byrne's Next Place (this is my nominee for house name) differ widely...is your current furniture going to work in the new house? Does it matter? Inquiring minds and all... ***** There will be some changes. For example, in SBM I have a wonderful library, perhaps my favorite room in the house, with dark wood shelves and leather chairs and even one of those sliding ladders! In The New Place, there is no equivalent room, and not even a room that could be converted to an equivalent room, so I will lose the library, and have to go back to plain old shelves to hold my books. There is a place that is perfect for that arrangement, fortunately, right outside the rooms I plan to use as my Studio. Beyond that, much of the furnishings here at the Manor, altho antique, are not huge and ornate Adams Family style, and will fit very nicely in TNP. (The first time I stepped thru the front doors of TNP I saw there was a spot at the top of the stairs leading down the the lower floor that will be perfect for an old bench I bought a while back. It's made of 100 year old church doors, and while antigue, is square and solid, so its lines are not at all at odds with the house.) One of the things that brought a smile to my face (much needed in this time of Madness) the other day, was realizing the new house will have room for and is in style with the chairs designed by Charles Eames. I have wanted an Eames chair since I was about 15, but nowhere I have lived has ever really "supported" one. Most of the places were too small, SBM was just the wrong style. So, if all goes well and I move int TNP, the first thing I buy is an Eames chair.

" I never for a moment wondered why Batman couldn't fly, or
thought that Superman's power of flight came from his cape."
JB,
I remember at various times hearing people say that Batman
can fly. When I corrected them they replied, "....but he wears a
cape."
Along these same lines (mistaken superhero powers) I have
found that many people do not know that Spider-Man has
super strength.

When I permit myself to get analytical about it, I often wonder why BATman doesn't fly, while SuperMAN does.I know that in the latter case, the decision to have him fly came from the Fleischer studios, who liked the look better than having him leaping around like -- as Jim Steranko described it in his "History of Comics" -- an "anthropomophic kangaroo", but as a kid I used to love the occasional stories where aliens or beings from the future would stitch wings on Batman's back and he would soar like his namesake.

Was this, at all, part of the inspiration that allowed the Batman to fly in G3?
