I'd like to know how JB gets all of his secret high tech vehicles and Byrne Super Computer technology from one abode to the other without forfeiting his "comic creator" guise.**** Can't be done. Previous owners always announce to the neighborhood who I am and what I do. When I moved in here the realtor told my new neighbors I had "created Spider-Man", which left a lot of disappointed kids expecting Stan Lee!

I wish I could share this thread with all of the "helpful" art teachers and comic shop owners who discouraged me from pursuing a career in comics because there's no money in it and the industry wouldn't be around by the time I was grown... ****** If it makes you feel any better, this is all about dumb luck, not talent. I just happened to buy Stately Byrne Manor at exactly the right time, for about 10% of it's current market value.

How'd you pull that? Have real estate prices jumped that much in
20 years, was it run down when you bought it, or was it a mix of both?

No. More dumb luck. I bought the Manor in 1984 (moved in in 1985) and in 1977 it had been a decorator showcase, before the prior owners took possession. Every interior decorator for miles around had taken a room and plaster and painted and rewired and replumbed, and it was in nearly mint condition when I stepped thru the front door.

JB, this brings to mind a question that I've been carrying around. Do people in your neighborhood know who you are and what you do? Can you go to the local store or eatery and not be recognized? How much anonymity do you have?

How much anonymity do you have?****** My neighbors all know who I am and what I do. And at various parties I am always introduced as "the comicbook artist" (or, more often, "the famous comicbook artist"), which usually elicits from whomever I am being introduced to some comment about something "funny" that happened to them, that I can use in one of my comicbooks. In stores and restaurants I am usually safe, tho after the "Spider-Man" DVD came out one of the women at Stop&Shop came running after me in the aisle to ask if "that was really you" on the disc.
