Many things jump out about this piece ( this amazing piece), but I'll mention two of them. The first is Nightcrawler. When he is in action pieces, I think he is usually shown after the teleportation, as if he is just arriving. I usually notice another "bamf cloud" somewhere showing where he teleported from. When I didn't see one in this commission, I looked at Kurt more closely and realized that the small dinosaur was attacking from the viewer's left wouldn't have been able to react that quickly to his appearing there. It then occurred to me that he was just starting to teleport. If JB is reading this, did I read that right?The next thing I noticed was the absence of Sunfire, who I know didn't really join, but who I always think of when I see Thunderbird with the X-Men. Anyways, these commissions are bittersweet, but I'd rather have them than not have them. Thanks to JB and the commissioners for letting us in on the fun.

As a huge JB fan with a couple of his commissions, I always check this forum regularly to see what he has done new. Lately, commissions haven't been as frequent so in the back of my mind I tell myself that "JB's productivity must be diminishing as he gets older!" Boy oh boy, how wrong I am! It's a 30 x 40 commission for crying out loud! These things take weeks (or even months) to complete. My conclusion - JB hasn't lost a step in his productivity at all. What a great piece here!

I view Professor X as a hugely important character in the title, but not a member of the team.•• Chris and I saw Xavier as a team member. That's why we gave him a solo issue! But including him in this piece would have been a stretch. Didn't want anybody to be carrying him, or to put him in a more formidable chair. Or, even, to go for the astral projection.

Looks like a Torosaurus, which had a frill about 50% bigger than Triceratops, but smaller horns.

In an alternate reality, JB would've started this memorable run on X-MEN with his artistic skill at THIS LEVEL!!! •••
And I STILL wouldn't be happy with it!!

Well, JB, most artists are their own worst critics!! Most of us ol' fans would LOVE to live in that alternate reality.
Another question to ponder, "WHAT IF Claremont had left UNCANNY X-MEN instead of Byrne?"

Even if you aren't "happy" with a piece, do you get satisfaction knowing that the person you made it for is going to be ecstatic?
