Very nice indeed! By my reckoning, this is the first commission JB drew as a Hall of Fame inductee.

JB, really great piece. There's just something a little off about their expressions and postures to make it clear these are not heroes. Am I correct in noting that Ultraman's hair is left without blacks to keep him on-model with the gray-tinted hair he has in his original appearance (Justice League of America 29)?

Great work again JB. Not having a lot of exposure to The Crime Syndicate or the characters, this representation is what I think of. I like how I get a bad guy vibe from this group.

Love it! The CSA is a personal favorite; I was somewhat crushed when they were killed in the original Crisis.
And, as someone noted above, the smugness in their expressions is just perfect and a refreshingly different take than the standard scowl usually given to villains.

...there should be a Gold-Man!I think this is something kids used to (still do?) discover when trying to come up with their own superheroes and villains in play. Adding 'man" or "o" etc. may or may not work. Magneto or Magnet Man? Irono or Iron Man? •• A good example can be found in the Metal Men. Giving the robots the names of the metals they represent, plain and simple, seems to work better than appending "man" or "girl" or "woman". Lead, or Leadman? Mercury or Mercuryman? They start to sound "phony," don't they?

I couldn't truly tell why some names strike my ear better than others. Iron Man is just fine. Steel Man? How about just... Steel? Perhaps this kind of naming was something comicbook creators from the 40s through maybe the early 70s just had a knack for. Some clunkers, surely, but mostly good name selection. Ant Man, good. Atom Man, no, no -- but they went with the Atom, good! Or thinking of the X-Men: Cyclops, Beast, Angel, good. What about this "ice" character? Ice-o? Nah. Ice-or? Nah. Mister Ice? Nah. Ice Man? Perfect! -- even ignoring that he was a "lad." Jean Grey? I wonder what names Lee-Kirby considered. If I remember correctly, I think Lee incorrectly scripted her power as teleportation! Teleport Girl? Yeesh. Right, right, fall-back on how marvelous she is... Marvel Girl.
JB, if you had been given the power to rename Marvel Girl (same character, powers, pre-Phoenix), what would you have chosen?

"Steel man"...the literal English translation of Superman's name in Swedish!
I'm not really up on the Metal Men, but at one time theyhad 'The Metal Women' as girlfriends.. mostly called 'name of element Girl', and 'Tina' had a 'Platinum Man'(who, I assume, did not have a cute diminutive nickname.
