Awesome piece… i've enjoyed the Crime Syndicate stories in recent years, especially the animated "Crisis On Two Earths" JL movie. Drawing the updated costumes would've solved your Owlman issue, JB, but I suppose that wasn't an option.

Still, congrats to the owner!

Great work, JB...yes, even on 'Stupid Hatman'(Hey, that should have been his name, it rhymes with 'Batman'!)
The Crime Syndicate weren't bad as far as the 'villains with the heroes' powers' gimmick goes, but I don't think they thought the characters' motivations through very well.
Did Owlman decide to become an owl because 'law-abiding citizens area superstitious, cowardly lot?' Did someone at DC decide 'an owl is the opposite of a bat'?

An owl is also a creature of the night. None of these characters are strictly "opposites" of their Earth 1 counterparts. But Owlman does serve a lesson in hero/villain creation. As I have often said, taking a noun and attaching "man" at the end doesn't always produce the best results. "Spider-Man" and "Tiger-Man," for instance, have the same number of beats, yet, to my ears at least, the first works and the second doesn't. "The Fly" works, "Flyman" doesn't.

Similarly, (and, again, this is to my ears) while "Night-Owl" works, "Owlman" doesn't.

I like how you drew Ultraman's collar. It's the first time I really get it. Too
often it ends up looking like weird 80's shoulder pads to me.

Owls are the natural predator of bats, so I understand why an owl was
chosen for an "evil Batman".

...there should be a Gold-Man!

I think this is something kids used to (still do?) discover when trying to come up with their own superheroes and villains in play. Adding 'man" or "o" etc. may or may not work. Magneto or Magnet Man? Irono or Iron Man?

Do you remember when villains looked dangerous? John Byrne, of course, does.

For me the one major problem with the Crime Syndicate is that the JLA already have more interesting "evil twin" characters within their own universe. Reverse-Flash, Sinestro and Bizarro for instance.

For some reason this drawing makes me want to see a tussle between
the Crime Syndicate and the Avengers.

That's a fun one.
Ultraman's cape fills out the bottom of the page perfectly.

It is interesting, I looked at this piece and thought how well you handled
Owlman. Then I scroll down and see how you claimed defeat. I will
claim victory for you!
