It looks like IDW have acquired the rights to Micronauts and Rom and will be publishing them in 2016.
JB, given that these are sorta-kinda old-school Marvel properties, and you did some work on Rom previously, do you have any interest in working on these series?
I really enjoy the imaginary Micronauts cover commission you did a while back and would love to see you do more work with those characters.
Thanks.

My question would be do they have the license just to the Hasbro characters or does it include everything Marvel created when they had the license? If it's the former, then I'm afraid this does nothing for me. If it's the latter, then that just might get me to walk into an LCS again.

This is great news. IDW will do a fantastic job with these books.

As for the license, they probably ONLY have the rights to the toy names and other intellectual property created for the boxes, etc. Nothing Marvel created (I'm guessing) will show up in these books.
Although something created for one of them is supposed to have been incorporated into an upcoming Marvel movie.

If true, then I have no interest. When Marvel lost the license but still produced SPACEKNIGHTS, there was something definitely off about it. Ditto an iteration of the Micronauts done by another company without the Marvel added cast. Perhaps they'll appeal to those who have no familiarity or fondness for the 80s comics, but I do so it would be a non-starter for me.

I was never really a big fan of either licenses, but I'd take a wait and see approach and hopefully IDW will produce a series worthy of what Marvel did creativity back in the days.

I had no great interest in MICRONAUTS or ROM. For different reasons. In the case of ROM I did not care for the character design. For the MICRONAUTS, I didn't care for the added characters, whose designs and names did not fit with the established characters.

I didn't care for the MICRONAUTS, but enjoyed ROM. Did Marvel create the Dire Wraiths or were they already a part of the spaceknight's story?

Well I don't know the situation about the copyrights but IDW was able to publish a reedition of The Transformers series from Marvel although IDW couldn't reprint the panels where Spider-Man appeared in (issue #3).. The problem with the ROM series to be reprinted from someone outside of Marvel is that it was almost a ROM Team-Up series because in more than 50 issues there was a Marvel hero guest-starring!

Loved both series, at least in the beginning, Micronauts lost my interest after couple of years.
Loved Michael Golden's artwork in Micronauts. Also loved his covers on Rom, especially the Jack of Hearts issue, Rom 12. For years, that was one of my favorite covers.

I wonder if the existing artwork, captions and dialogue could be heavily (but skillfully) cut, reordered and re-letters to present a coherent, enjoyable series free of "major" Marvel characters. (I am not suggesting this is what IDW should do, just curious to know if it could be done.)
