But we aren't even getting consistent movie versions across all media either. Every medium (movies, tv, comics, video games, cartoons, toys, etc.) seems to have a different version now. So unlike Disney to me.

Changing direction for a moment. If the rumors are true. Aunt May just got smoking hot.
The rumor is that Marisa Tomei is top choice to play Aunt May in the next Spider-Man movie.

Let's not drift! Ms Tomei's casting is being discussed in the movie section.

My question is--with two movie incarnations having de-aged and sexed- up Aunt May, how long will it be before the comics follow suit?

Beyond the de-aged Ultimate Aunt May, and "616" Aunt May apparently banging everyone in sight, what else is there to know?
If it gets even worse, maybe I shouldn't know!

So if this movie makes a kid into a Spider-Man fan and he goes into a comic shop to find a Spider-Man comic, he'll get a story about Peter Parker as Tony Stark instead. •••
JB: Nothing new there. If anyone sought out a Superman comic after the first Donner/Reeve movie, they'd have found Clark Kent, news anchor, Steve Lombard and Morgan Edge! ====== Exactly why I had to wait for you to restart the character with Man Of Steel. Probably missed several years of me collecting and reading Superman because the character, and his world, was too far removed from what I knew.
I wonder how many will feel the same way about the current Spider-Man.

Which sort of brings us back to how this thread started: WAAAT are they doing with Spider-Man?

I wonder if the thinking in-house at Marvel runs along the lines that mirroring the content of the films would be backwards, since the comic line's only real economic justification for existence is acting as the research and development lab for the movies. They can't simply put Peter back in high school because Hollywood already has all the Peter in high school storylines it will ever need. Marvel comics have to invent new stories Hollywood hasn't seen yet with the characters so they can make movies based on those stories if they so choose.
Not that anyone's going to make the Spider-Island movie, but they could, and someday just might, make the Superior Spider-Man movie. A film based on Parker Industries wouldn't be a likely "go" concept, but who knows? It might be, and it's still something "new," therefore allowing Marvel to continue to claim to be the place where the stories are invented before being retooled for the screen.
Maybe Marvel can't rest on their laurels and print familiar-seeming work. Maybe they have marching orders to constantly push the envelope and develop new-looking material, lest those with the purse strings decide they already have all the ready-made story boards they're ever likely to need.

The above image is what I was referring to. Greg you actually seemed to be aware of more than I am.
