Mine was X-Men 111. Weird issue to start on because no one was acting like themselves. http://marvel.wikia.com/X- Men_Vol_1_111
I think i even thought I had to buy the comic that day because I thought the "one week engagement" meant how long the issue was on the stands. Ten year old brain thinking.

After seeing that GSXM 1 cover upthread, I'm reminded that my first issue WASN'T 172, it was actually a copy of the SPECIAL EDITION that reprinted GS and had a Kitty's Birthday short story in the back. I still have no idea where I got that.

Issue 107 was my first, not even sure what drew me in, because I was largely unfamiliar with the cast of characters. That said, my brain melted at seeing all of the characters depicted in this book. I'd never seen so many in a book before.

My first issue was #94 - the first "regular" issue after the Giant Size issue that kicked off the new team. It was not an issue I bought off of the stands - it was in my brother's collection. He had a smattering of Cockrum and JB issues that gave me a good idea of the series, but the issues stopped when he quit comics. Reading those issues led me to start picking it up myself off the stands, just in time for Dark Phoenix.

This is the first book that introduced me to the X-Men.

I think my first X-Men book was #56, Neal Adams' first X-Men.
...which image I cannot find a way to reproduce here. Oh well... someone here is a genius and might be able to help, ja? Thanks.

I came late to the X-Men party. I had been getting Spider-Man, Avengers, and a few others for a couple of years before my first X-Men comic. I think it was #123

First one I ever bought #162. Odd starting point, right?
First one I ever READ was #127 at a friend's house.

I suppose I should revise my answer, as I was just thinking about the New (at the time) X-men. My first exposure would have been reprints of the Lee/Kirby run. Thinking back, I probably first saw X-men #1 in Son of Origins of Marvel Comics, around 1977.
