ITEM: As our esteemed Mr. Byrne would undoubtedly note... it depends whose book the comparison occurs in.
ITEM: Strongest Marvel heroes or strongest heroes in the Marvel Universe? Because with the latter, I might have to include Superman, Wonder Woman, Manhunter from Mars, Captain Marvel... :) :) :)
ITEM: Who don't I see? Beast, Namorita, Ms. Marvel, Nova (Rich Ryder did fight Thor to a standstill once...), Spider-Girl, Beta Ray Bill... which leads me to conclude that there are a LOT of super strong characters, and it's kinda tough to compare them all.
ITEM: As memory serves, one Marvel Annual (a Spider-Man one, perhaps?) listed the tiers of strongest heroes. Perhaps someone has a link or a photo to it.

Hmm...that does make me wonder--have Hercules and the Hulk ever gone head to head?
There was some pretty intense Hercules on Hulk action here...

Hulk and Hercules also bumped heads way back in the day, drawn by Bill Everett.

No one has mentioned the Silver Surfer. Where does he fit in? It seems to me that he's at least as strong as Terrax, who's at least as strong as the Thing. Isn't he?

Well, if we're going all cosmic, Galactus is stronger than the Surfer.

Yep, and with a cool cover, too! The pencils appear to be by Jack Kirby on the cover, with Everett inks

Michael, as soon I saw Joseph's question those pages with Spider-Man came straight to mind. LOL! Those came from an annual, right?

Yes, Matt -- the gallery of the strongest is from annual #15. It was close to the last comicbook I ever bought, as a long-time reader. Seems to me Mark Gruenwald's strength assessments are generally on target. Long way, in any event, from Spider-Man being fourth strongest, as in annual #1...!
(Bob Layton, man. I don't dislike his work, but, whew, the Vaseline and nipples!)

I always saw Colossus and She-Hulk as being in the "heavyweights" class alongside Ben Grimm and Namor.
