Another "Event" changing the status quo. Glad there wanting to go in
a "NEW" direction.

Yeah, this happened years ago.... and even if it didn't, aren't basically the same people spearheading this that did the same that have been running things for a while now? Doesn't instill confidence.

In other words, our mega-blockbuster movies aren't affecting comic sales at all!  The comic universe isn't enough like the movies.  How do we make the comics more like the movies?  Oh I know, let's just do what DC does every couple years and reboot!  Secret Wars is about 30 years old, nobody will remember that right!?

Re-Boot, He-Boot, a-We-Boot.
I Boot, You Boot, a-They-Boot
Be Boot, Be Boot, a-Lu-Re-Boot...
I hope Lee will understand...
Re-Boot, He-Boot, a-We-Boot...

According to a linked article to the one above, Lee says he's fine with this development and that surprising the readers is a necessary part of the business. He's looking forward to seeing what they do next.

I'm less sanguine about the whole thing. As I'm not interested in what the current creators are up to now, I don't think I'll suddenly become interested in their work as a result of this. I'm reminded of the promo period for Enterprise, the retro-style, hard-space-living, action-adventure series that was going to be so different and so new, they didn't even feel they could call it "Star Trek..."

And then they hired back all the same burned-out, non-creative people who'd been working for them all along...

Hey, wow, look. Week two: Holodeck episode.

It ended for me years ago ...as far back as 1994. or so...I purchased my last Marvel Masterworks volume #27  and it took until 1999 or so before they started publishing them on a regular basis again.  Not being able to afford the $35 per volume I stopped there. The only Marvel  or comics I get are at Books A Million or Amazon.com.. Oh and by the way it's the reprints of the 60's,70's and 80's material I'm really attached to.  The new creators..for better or worse don't have the same style of cartooning and all look like they are drawing from photo references in each panel.

That's one thing I never understood about Marvel.  They never thought comics using the likenesses of the actors in the movies would sell.  Perhaps they would have to pay the actors for using their likeness each issue so that idea fell by the wayside. However it would help introduce fans of the movies back to the world of comics.

Ah! Another perfect jumping-off point! DC did it with its PU-52, and now Marvel is doing it with the end of the universe. "Are you interested in the Marvel universe? Here's the time when you can quit!"

Not that I was collecting any Marvel comics anymore anyhow... but now, it gives a lot of frustrated fans a chance to quit Marvel and start checking out the Independents.

They're more likely to just quit all together, at least when I helped work in shops, there was little cross over from frustrated super hero readers to non-Big 2 books. Maybe it's changed but it would surprise me.

Well, it presents an opportunity to do the following:
Remove Emma Frost from the X-Men
Have Magneto be a bad guy
Have Tony Stark be Howard Stark's son
Put Peter Parker back in school
Have Cyclops be again the consummate leader
Reduce the number of mutants
Have Charles Xavier be someone who wants the best for mutants without background skulduggery and general 'I'm a git' planning

I'd be up for that.

Reduce the number of mutants
---------------
They already tried that didn't they? They just come back twice as fast.
