I like Jonathan Hickman, but this seems pretty crazed.

Yup, for example Morrison's inventions Damien and Batman Inc. made it into the New 52 unscathed. There are still four Robins, one of which is the Red Hood. All the stuff so priceless to Batman lore.

---

Damien is now dead, no? I actually liked the little bastard until it was clear that Morrison intended to keep him around for the long term.

(Four Robins in a five-year timeline. Lunacy.)

RE: Battleworld

OK, I admit to having enjoyed "insider baseball" comics before, but this is just too much.

They're one and the same. Not an original idea betwixt the two of
them....

It all feels rather desperate. Like they need to so something BIG to stay afloat. But how often can they (Marvel and DC) play the reboot card before it works against them?

With Marvel now owned by Disney, Marvel doesn't really need to do much of anything to stay afloat, does it? Except make movies, sell merchandise, etc.

(Same with DC and Warner Bros., now that I think about it.)

BATTLEWORLD
-------------------
I like the map, but I couldn't find the Tiger Empire on it. Should be about where the Eastern U.S. used to be?

I thought comics were just kept going to maintain trademarks on characters in between movie appearances.

The Battle World map looks like something out of a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

What were these marketeers thinking when they made this?

It looks like the story is going to be used as the basis of a new video game or a collectible card game....and knowing Marvel/ Disney perhaps both.

Somehow they are going to tie all the characters of the Marvel Universe together with some type of Secret Wars epic battle.

When I saw the Secret Wars back in 1984 it was a 12 issue advertisement to sell action figures.

It was a bad idea then and it is now.

If I thought of picking up new Marvel books I'm not going to now.  I don't have to be corporate insider to know that this idea was created by someone in the marketing department.

When this idea collapses next year,I wonder what's going to replace it?  With each new re-boot the next idea is always more outrageous than that next.

It looks like Marvel and DC are going to reach a point where they won't be publishing comics anymore. If not, they will have to drastically cut back on the titles.I wouldn't buy these books even if they were offered electronically for a 99 cent download.  This trend reminds me of what Marvel, Image and DC epics that had in the 1990's. No substance, lots of pin up artwork to be sold at conventions and a big implosion of unsold product. The 25 cent bargain basement long boxes are going to be stuck with this product next year.

So I guess if the death of a single character is event-worthy, then killing off who knows how many characters should be gold?

Or are these battles going to be on a point system?
