Joe Kubert is number 40 (according to Robert's list above)? All I need to know not to bother reading through that horribly organized web site.

I have to say, much as I am chuffed up by landing so close to the top -- many thanks to those who voted for me -- the list has a bit of a pulled-from-a-hat feel to it. Kubert below McFarlane? Toth at 49?Madness!

The other name in the top three (apart from Kirby and Perez) will be Frank Quitely - he came second the last time they did this poll

These lists are so subjective.I would have mixed in Dan Barry, Reed Crandall, George Evans. And yes Alex Toth is way too far down the list IMHO.

The list is skewed by including only a few foreign artists. I don't want to come off as ungrateful -- and, yeh, I know. You wouldn't want to be around when I DO want to come off as ungrateful -- but this list is very narrow. I'd be happy to come in as number 100 on a more comprehensive list.

Quitely #2? Err.. no. I like FQ and everything, but that's just dumb. He'd probably be the first to agree.
Maybe the next time they do the poll, they get pros to vote instead. It wouldn't be perfect either, but people like Wood, Toth and Kubert would be way higher up on the list.

What I do like about the list is that it doesn't try to pass off JB as just a nostalgic favorite; it shows both his old and new art and acknowledges that "Byrne today is just as good of a storyteller as he’s ever been"

Haven't looked at 100-51 yet, but any list that puts Steve McNiven and Oliver Coipel, both of whom are great artists in there own right, above George Perez, Jack Davis, Frank Frazetta, Al Williamson, Michael Kaluta, Peyo, Bill Watterson, Herge, Bernie Wrightson and a host of others I'm not remembering at the moment, has it's issues.
These are voted on by fans young and old. Many of the younger fans do not have the education in the medium to truly make this list close to correct. Sadly, many of the under-educated fans became online reporters and reviewers.

Sorry, but there's a lot of names on that list that I could easily live without! (Mostly newer ones.) And what is it based on--influence on the industry and other artists or just enjoyment or "prettiness"?
And I think writer/artists are a different animal than "just" artists. Neal Adams is my favorite artist of all time, but John Byrne is my favorite storyteller (or writer/artist).
It almost seems unbelievable that geniuses like Eisner, Miller, Simonson (and where's Starlin and Chaykin?) are even on the same list as "just" artists like Ivan Reis or Stuart Immonen (however talented they might be). And then I even go out of my way to avoid some of these (sorry, David Aja and Paul Pope!).
I'd like to see a list like this put together by ACTUAL comic book artists! People who know what they're talking about.

Although there is a universal appeal for some artists and most agree on the "legends" in the industry, this is subjective. Beauty in the eye of the beholder, etc. Some would say Todd McFarlane and Marc Silvestri should be at the top and they have enjoyed monetary success and have mass appeal. For me, JB represents canon for all my favourite, and even lesser favorite, characters. When I think of them, his renderings come immediately to mind. They are classic and lasting. His storytelling goes hand in hand with that. Being able to tell a compelling story with no words or in one panel is a testament to his visual sense. I'm probably preaching to the choir but there you have it...

If they post Stuart Immonen on that list, then I think Adam Hughes needs to be in their Top 3 by default!
