Re: That SPIDER-WOMAN cover--
I finally saw that issue in the comic shop...and they plastered the logo right over her posterior!
So, yes, I guess even that variant could show up in family-friendly places like the Disney Store.

Me on variants: My first impression will always be "Publicity Stunt". My second is that most alternate covers really don't impress me and tell me nothing about the story other than the fact of who the main character is. My third and final is that no matter how good the art is, the story will likely suck big time these days, and no superstar creative team will resurrect the beast if it dies due to editorial overreach and marketing near-misses.

That's not wrong, really. The publishers do use the variants as a marketing gimmick, to spark demand from fans and speculators so that retailers will place higher orders to meet that demand.

The variants have become standard. Changing them to monthly alternates. DC Selfie Month, Groot and Rocket Month, Lego version....

On the plus side of variants, DC had a bunch of Darwyn Cooke covers that seemed to be around 50% of this month's print run of DC books. Available at the same cost of the regular covers, and I know of several people who picked up books they'd never have tried out otherwise.
