CBR is currently asking it's readers to list there Top Ten writers and artists. So, I thought we'd could do the same without some of the ridiculous favor of the month names that seem to pop up on such lists on those sites. Plotters count as writers. If this gives a book more than one writing credit, you have to split them up. In other words. If you like the combination of Chris Claremont and John Byrne as writers of the X-Men, you have to use two spots to list both. List them 10th-1st.
I look forward to see what we come up with. So, here's mine...
Writers: 10. Larry Hama 9. Jim Starlin 8. Frank Miller 7. Marv Wolfman 6. Len Wein 5. Walt Simonson 4. John Byrne 3. Stan Lee 2. Roger Stern 1. Mark Waid
Artists: 10. Will Eisner 9. Walt Simonson 8. Bernie Wrightson 7. Joe Kubert 6. John Buscema 5. George Perez 4. Alan Davis 3. Neal Adams 2. Jack Kirby 1. John Byrne

A list of personal favorites, more or less as they occurred to me. On another day, the list would undoubtedly come out differently. I'm certain there are also some tragic oversights that I'll regret not including. As for artists, I could do a personal Top 50...
And I really wish that Writer/Artists could be considered a separate group.
10. Marty Pasko9. E. Nelson Bridwell 8. Marv Wolfman 7. John Byrne 6. Chris Claremont 5. Bob Haney 4. Will Eisner 3. Walt Kelly 2. Alan Moore 1. Alan Brennert
10. Ramona Fradon 9. Jaime Hernandez 8. Will Eisner 7. Wally Wood 6. Dave Stevens 5. John Byrne 4. George Perez 3. Bill Everett 2. Curt Swan 1. Jim Aparo

Brian I agree. If I did this list a year from now, it would without a doubt, change. I don't know about others, but I actually get something out of these. I'll go through lists like this looking for writers or artists that maybe I've read but aren't very familiar with or maybe have not read and explore why they would make a list like this. So, they help me explore the medium in places I wouldn't have looked on my own.
Edited because "lists" was spelled out as "lusts". I love comics, but I don't "LOVE" comics!

Somewhere, there's a list of who won the fan awards by year, starting with the first "Alley" awards. If we added up who won "Best" or "Favorite" in the writer and artist categories each year, we'd get a pretty good picture from the Silver age on, although it would slight earlier eras, as doe, pretty much, all of the above lists so far. (I don't see, for example, Charles Biro or Al Feldstein listed as writers on any of the above lists, and that's fine, but I think they both were "favorites" in their day). If we did that, I have no doubt that Stan Lee would likely top the list for favorite writer, with Infantino, Kubert, and Kirby probably all placing for favorite artist.

Well, this was ridiculously hard...and so many names left off. Still, I'm pretty happy with my top choices. And I think all my choices are deserving...though in some cases the picks were influenced by "I don't think this fellow gets as much credit as he should" along with two choices that get the "I really see some flaws in their work now...but wow did they leave a huge mark on me back when I first discovered them." WRITERS 10. Bill Finger 09. Chris Claremont 08. Steve Ditko 07. Roy Thomas 06. Kurt Busiek 05. Archie Goodwin 04. Will Eisner 03. Roger Stern 02. John Byrne 01. Stan Lee ARTISTS 10. Don Heck 09. Sal Buscema 08. Steve Ditko 07. Jack Kirby 06. John Buscema 05. Jim Aparo 04. Will Eisner 03. John Romita, Sr. 02. Alan Davis 01. John Byrne
