He kills it...

By the way, Terry Austin inks John's art a lot better than Klaus Janson, in my opinion. Janson fits better in a Frank Miller style.

1) John Byrne
2) Alan Davis (That's right. I said it.)

I "met" Wolverine in the X-MEN issue where he decides to go with Alpha
Flight so that the rest of his teammates won't have to continue fighting on
his behalf. The X-Men reluctantly acquiesce, but soon after, reconsider their
decision, and decide to go rescue him. Unfortunately, Wolverine has beaten
them to the punch by rescuing himself!

For me, the number 2 artist for Wolverine is Paul Smith.

Far below in the chart...

Favorites?

Yes JB on the top for me (Best version + he was the artist on the series whent i started to read it)

After that? Probably Marc Silvestri, Jim Lee and Paul Smith ex equo. Maybe Frank Miller too. Certainly Frank Miller too.

A little praise for Dave Cockrum: this is about as definitive a panel as you can get...

Klaus was inking breakdowns on WOLVERINE. I liked what he did with my full pencils on THE AVENGERS.

If the burst simply creased his side, what tore all the way through his shirt, front-to-back?

Jim Shooter's whim of iron!

I recall a panel in Days of Future Past wherein Storm commands Logan to sheathe his claws and he bridles. "I wouldn't take that from Cyclops!" he snarls. "You will take it from me," she says and he caves.

From fairly early on, Claremont was writing Scott ever more closely becoming an obsolete, overly introverted thumbsucker, and Storm as, well, the best there was at what she did. And what she did was everything.

"Wolverine was hunting a warthog..."

and taking a huge chunk out of it's side with his claws and then eating that chunk raw. (!)

I had to re-check that issue since it has been years since I read it. I always liked this all too short run and enjoyed the way Klaus Jansen's inked looked on JB's breakdowns. That bit of experimentation (from JB's normal style) worked well for the character.
