Sadly, this Wolverine no longer exists. But then again, that's true all the comics I used to enjoy.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between Cyclops and Wolverine back then. Scott was still the leader and he knew, he understood Wolverine, and he more than anyone else, like the great leader he was, tried to reach him, tried to integrate him as part of the team. The severe contrast in their personalities was, through JB's work, crafting a positive relationship. And all that was trashed, maybe permanently, with three words: "you're a dick."

It's not often that one can point to a single moment as THE ONE where a character skidded off the rails, but in Scott's case it happened in the Savage Land story, when Chris scripted a scene differently from how we had plotted it. Instead of what was intended as a touching and revealing scene in which Scott contemplated his relationship with the reborn Jean Grey/Phoenix, it became a totally out-of-character feminist rant from Storm -- and Scott became, in the eyes of so many fans, "a dick."

I agree with that. I think the line from the movies was the culmination of a long steady denigrating of Cyclops, and it was patent, to me at any rate, that Chris Claremont favored Storm over Cyclops, and in such ways that changed both characters for the worse, again for me.
But regarding Wolverine and Cyclops, I think your art itself, JB, even when written against kept up a good fight to preserve these characters and what worked so well in their relationship. I suppose my favorite sequence would be when Cyclops sees Wolverine terribly shaken after Proteus and coaxes him into a not-so-safe tussle.

I also liked Wolverine`s affinity with animals rather than people.

If the burst simply creased his side, what tore all the way through his shirt, front-to-back?

Although I prefer Jim Lee's Wolverine/Logan (Uncanny 268-272 especially), I've got to admit John Byrne's take on the character was sublime...

I never read the Archie/J.B. Wolverine,so my frame of reference is when he tells Ororo he`s going hunting deer, but he`s actually stalking them not killing them. The Zabu scene and in Miller/Claremont Wolverine where he reluctantly puts the bear out of it`s misery.

IIRC, when Wolverine went hunting, he would stalk his prey without killing it. I think it's mentioned in UXM 109. It's been longer since I've read the Wolverine issue. I don't remember if he kills the hog or not.
